Lumping all of the 400S models together is another sign of incompetence.

Astonishing!! I think we have some more to run then...
$100Ks 308! who would have thought!?

EDIT:there seems to be a new frenzy for the 308 since this spring for whatever reason, that appears worst that for the Countach.
I am at loss to explain this...

They are not quite at $100k yet, though not far away either. $60-80k for well cared for carb and QV examples. They may very well be there soon for top cars.

I sold my GTB QV for the top of your range about a year ago. The buyer knew he was buying ahead of the market but there was no way he was going to find a better car than mine and he knew it. Regardless, that was the only way to pry it out of my hands anyway. Back to the point: your range is about right.

That is almost 3x what a 2v FI GTB should be going for.

Not to turn this into a. 308 thread, but it's actually one of the least desirable models as an '82, due to lower HP. As nice as it is claimed to be, it's nowhere near a $109K car. Collectors are not looking for '82s. They would be lucky to get half of that.

    Patrick,

That the "2015 SCM Pocket Price Guide" is actually a published resource for the marketplace boggles the mind.

    - The LP400 is given an erroneous production range of 74 - 76.
    - Strangely, the LP400 is given an imaginary single-year production range of just 77.
    - The LP400S is given an erroneous production range of 76 - 82.

The aforementioned are factual errors, not implausible opinions. The "77" LP400 listed at @ one-tenth the value of the 74 - 76 LP400 is clearly another error, as are the values of the LP400S, the QV and the 25th!

There is only one use for the "2015 SCM Pocket Price Guide" I can suggest, and I'd rather leave that to your collective imagination. However, one can be forgiven for drawing the obvious conclusion that this publication is, sadly, reflective of today's market. A marketplace where there is so much erroneous information, uneducated buyers and even more uneducated sellers tripping over each other to cause a deal, any deal with any car, substandard cars seeking top dollar, non-professional armchair 'specialists' making wild proclamations, and auction houses ready to flip dealer's cars and fuel the fire. IMVHO, anyone who thinks big numbers are the singular component of a healthy market is mistaken. Look on the bright side, things can only get better one way or another.

The 208 GTB Turbo intercooled car is an interesting option. It looks great and is unknown in the USA.

That magazine and it's staff have always seemed to show disdain for the Countach. Always with the gold chain medallion man remarks and the like.

I picture Statler and Waldorf from the Muppets when I picture who might write this magazine. Most every 70s / 80s car is underappreciated by them.

They put a pic of my car in the editorials last year and posted a caption stating that "loud" cars like the countach will soon go the way of the dodo bird as they are frowned on by society at large.

Like Kelly Blue Book, NADA, etc, would you have any idea what the major insurance companies would use as their guide to values for these cars? Hopefully not the previously
    mentioned guide.

Unfortunately, many classic Countachs are under-insured, at least in the eyes of the owners!

I'd say most insurance companies use multiple sources to determine value.

Both Insurance companies & Countach owners alike contact me for appraisals on a regular basis, and I deal with it on a case-by-case basis in as dispassionate & balanced way as I can.

Joe, do you travel world wide and actually lay eyes on each car, do you have trusted eyes that you sub out to, or do owners submit photos for the appraisal?

Regarding cars I consult on for business, I travel or I have trusted eyes look at the car for me, more the latter these days.

As regards the appraisals for insurance, I have owners submit images via email, and I often know the car in question, or have access to supplementary information about it.

Whatever happened to Replacement value? Your car/ bike gets stolen, the insurance company finds the actual cash value it will take for you to go out and by a similar .car/bike, it hppened to me a few years back,My Harley got stolen,i spoke to my agent, wich imidiately offerd me new list price as settlemnt, problem was the similar bike at the time fetched 2 k over list on the open market. My response to my agent was i do not want the money but i would love a similar bike, IOW just like the one taken from me,1 week later i got a call from my ins company agreeing to give me 2 k more ( fair replacement price) being that they could not find a replcement to my bike at list price.this was in fact a good experience, based on the fact they actually tried to find me a bike, but realised it would in fact take 2 k more to buy one, hopefully they will treat me the same way if my Countach gets stolen.my story, whatever its worth.
