Hi all, Happy New Year ... Just took my car out of the garage, it's been taken off the road now for just over 2 months, but moving it every 5 weeks roughly. Started fine ... but when I put it on full right lock, it was almost like the tyres were juddering, rather than the suspension, could it be because the tyres PSI's are at 40 (for storage) since when it was at normal pressures in the summer, no such full lock judder was experienced ? Sorry, I should add we are talking at very slow speeds, 2 or 3 mph ... just manouvering it etc. Any thoughts anyone ... it's a 2010 ... 7.5k miles on the clock. Cheers all ...
Oh meant to say ... I've just been back out and tried full left lock ... similar issue, but not quite as bad ? Any thoughts ... ?
Do you recall the outside temperature when you were turning the car? Could be due to the summer tires and cold conditions, that will cause a shuddering affect.
Yeah, good point ... it was about 4 degrees tonight in the UK ... like you say in summer, nearer 20 / 25 when I take it out. Thanks.
normal, and typical with a bit of overpressure and cold temps. tires hard from pressure and compound hard due to temp. We drove the Speciale the other day at 25F and got the same.... Add in some extreme steering geometry and it's the tires skipping. Feel it in the race car with cold tires/temps, it's almost like a "stick shaker" through the wheel letting you know you have some serious understeer!
Same here. Cold weather and cold tyres can do it. HOWEVER. I had a similar problem with my previous 997.2 and it had been in very cold storage for 1½ month due to a long winter holiday over xmas. The wheel bolts had been tightened @ around 20 C in the autumn in a warm garage. I took it out on a Sunday when I came back on a dry, but very cold day just to roll the wheels and enjoy a nice drive. It was -7 to -8ish C and at a petrol station where I had to turn around, it had a judder. Went out had a look, grabbed the right front wheel for the heck of it, tried to jerk it back and forth,,, guess what? It was loose! Check your bolts to see if the temperature difference have made the bolts come loose. Just to note. I always use proper tools when tightening my wheels, so it was not put away with wrong torque applied to the bolts etc. The rest, while not loose like the right, were not tight at all when I went through them. That was a bit of a wake-up call.
