Which is the better looking Ferrari....F430 or 458?

Well, I know you just got yours (at least I think I just saw that you did on another post) but I personally think the 458 is much better looking.

My personal reservation on the 430 is just what you mentioned. To me its several cars mashed together with the a pillar to rear of the door being borrowed from a 360.

Now thats why I see when I look at the car.

But don't be too hard on yourself and/or don't let me come across as too hard on the 430.

The are both great looking cars. Its like arguing over which super model is attractive...

 

^^^ No worries I was originally looking to buy a 458 so I also think they look great, But I do love the looks of the F430...the reason I went with my F430 was for the manual gearbox and the way the car makes me feel while driving it, the sound, and the fact that it's the last gated 3 pedal, it's much more raw and not as refined or modern as the 458, which is what gives it a unique "personality". I can always add a 458 later...they are pretty much all the same with the same gearbox in all of them

I agree with your pic exactly. The 458 looks like a true evolution of the 360. To me the 430 looks like a mix up of many different cars built off of a 360. The 360 to me is timeless and i think the 458 is the true next step forward. Obviously the 430 blows the 360 away performance wise but we are talking Aesthetics here.

My next one will be a 458, i am skipping the 430 and will not sell the 360 unless I feel the 458 makes me lose desire to drive the 360

Those front headlights with the stream of LEDs lookin like Vegas in the 80s will get played out as fast as the cheese cutter vents on 90s Ferraris. It'll be one of those features where we tell ourselves, "yea it was cool when it was out, but I wouldnt go anywhere near that today" 10-20 years from now. The F430 front and headlight design doesn't look like it's trying too hard and will stand the test of time. It is modern, simple, and not too overboard.

 

458 has the better stance. Wider, sleeker, and lower. But those headlights though...

458 for the new technology and really great driving and very nice shape
and the F430 for one of the most beautiful engines ever build,
the nice retro design elements and and the nice rawness in driving.

I prefer the F430 but like the 458 very much.

 

You mean the 360 borrowed it from the 308 ; )

 

I used to think the same way, but now I'm not entirely sure because of the way the DCT gearbox in the 458 feels. It's fast, but don't you think it takes away from the rawness of the car a little bit? I guess I like to feel a little momentum change when I shift a gear. This mentality will probably drive up the desire for a 3 pedal F430, looks being irrelevant.

 

The rear and rear quarter shot of the 458 is beautiful, the front end, that's another story. I think the Speciale addressed most of the issues and that'd be the one that I'd consider. Still find the F430 Berlinetta to be the best looking modern Ferrari. Although 599gto, there's something about that car.

 

Love the scud. It has the best looking engine compartment of any of the modern V 8s, not too obstructed so you can see all the details. The best velocity stacks and great use of carbon fiber.

 

Looks-wise 430 all day for me. 458 reminds me of that Lotus that they can't sell. It just isn't exciting to me.....at least it wasn't until I saw the Speciale - that seems to have addressed the things I didn't care for.

F430 gets my vote. The 458 isn't ugly by any stretch, but for some reason it looks a lot longer than the F430, which throws off the proportions in my eyes. F430 always looked perfectly proportioned, and you can get it with the manual transmission!

 

Have you driven a 458 in race mode in a more aggressive manner? If you do you will see it has some visceral feel to the gear shift. If you really want visceral feel with paddles, thats the Scud. Nothing comes close.

Interesting points on the side profile evolution from 360-458. I never really considered this. I see exactly what you guys are talking about. But to my eyes the 430 looks like a distinct own car which I prefer to the 360 which I think is too soft looking in non CS guise. I guess everyone sees these things differently.

 

Pictures are helpful but you really have to see the cars to answer the question. The 458, to me, looks a lot better in person than in pictures. Visit a dealership with a good supply of used cars and it may make a difference.

Totally agree. The 458 is striking and dramatic in real life. Also - rolling down the street. At a couple of angles it's a bit "too much" for me, but that is splitting hairs on these designs.

 

When the 458 was launched I liked its design much better than the one of the 430. But over the years I started to get annoyed by some details like the kitschy wings in the front and the rear light arrangement. And my enthusiasm for the 458 design becomes even smaller with the Speciale launch, now the entire front is ugly and its two side wings are absolutely painful.

Therefore I vote for the 430, overall considered the 458 design is/was too trendy.

IMHO the 458 looks like a Lambo wannabe. And the newer Lambos look like an attempt at an x-wing fighter from Star Wars.

 

yeah when it first came out, the front looked like a crab... now I like it
