If I understand your post correctly, the new MSRP was $200K?

How are my AZ vehicle registration fees calculated?

    So, .8375^9 * .6 * $200000 * $2.89/100 = $702.97 for the VLT plus $9.50 of other fees.

My calculation may be wrong and the post from the ADOT is 2.5 years old and the rates may have changed. Contacting a third party license shop in Arizona would be the most reliable answer to your question.

Nerd is correct. For the registration fee.

If this is a new purchase, you also must pay sales tax on the purchase price unless you purchase from a private party.

Desert Tag & Title - Fast, efficient and painless Private industry option rather than going to the MVD
Desert Title & Tag Vehicle Registration and Renewal - Arizona Third Party MVD

I was looking at a car but had a private party, out of State, Lease release question that the local MVD folks were giving me different answers depending on who in their offices I was talking to. Upon recommendation of a friend, I went to DTT. The lady had the right books for details on all 50 States and looked it up. I had my answer quickly and she even accurately quoted AZ title/registration costs.

I flew to Chicago, did the deal and brought the car back.
Went straight to DTT and with 15 mins I walked out with everything; plate, tag, registration, and title. This is so efficient that there is no need to snail mail you anything.

    Their fee: $15

Well worth it rather than stand in long lines at the MVD

I'm confused. I thought that you had to pay sales tax on new and used cars no matter if they were bought from a dealership or a private party. Could be wrong. Just want to clarify.

In Arizona a Buyer pays sales tax if they purchase from dealer. No sales tax if purchased from an individual/ private party.

Yup, AZ has a great law that one only pays sales tax to a dealer (not on private party purchases). Sadly, many states do not have that law. CA being one where the same car generates sales tax each and every time its sold over the years.

I bought my CS from a private party...saved me over $10k in sales tax...happy day!

And, AZ only charges sales tax on the purchase of a car from a dealer on the amount of cash paid above any trade-in. So, I traded an older Porsche on my Maserati and only paid sales tax on the bit of cash I had to add. Sweet! Again, no such luck in CA...one pays sales tax on the total cost of the new car regardless of trade-in. No bueno.

You can get around the CA sales tax on a private sale by not registering the car for six months. :)

How so? I know that I can't move a car into CA within 12 months of purchase without paying the sales tax differential. Can you show us the 6 month rule?

Good to know. I don't currently live in AZ, but plan to probably in about 3-4 years or so.

I am a living example. :) Was told by DMV at the time I did register the car that there would be no sales tax due to the transaction taking place prior to six months.
