I don't think it needs to be removed, just need to get behind it on one side.

Getting the Boxer detailed, has a few small ape dings in roofline and I need to get the dent repair guy under the headliner. Got a call, his upholstery pro said something about having to drill out some rivets on the post? WT?

Anyone taken a headliner down? This one is perfect, and don't want to mess up this interior. Thanks

I will be curious to know this too..For the TR series..
There is an object inbetween my headliner and the metal roof..directly above the passengers head...odd.. like a cyst has grown in there, cant see it but when I wipe it I feel a bump.??

BTW... I had 3 impressions removed from my roof by PDR guy...he did not even open the car door or window to remove them...He used hot glue and a puller device..
    Came out perfect.

Using what the press says about the 80s and the Testarossa as a guide, it's a bundle of cocaine. Definitely cocaine.

The headliner is riveted along both sides behind the quarter glasses and behind the weather seals for the doors. The sun visor screws also retain the headliner to the roof. Once all those fasteners are removed and the side glasses removed it slides forward off a hook that supports it in the center above the mirror

Jesus Christ, might as well put filler in the roof and paint it! Does that seem like overkill to you? It just has a couple of little elbow dimples put there by some complete idiot.

lol it gets better. Take the step plates off, strikers, lower bead seal and rear door jamb plates to get to the one lower rivet for the quarter glass frames. Then the little screw inside at the back that retains the rear of the window frame and drill the external rivets on the frame, cut the sealant then pull the window frame forward. Now you can get to the rear side rivets that retain the headliner!

Newman, depending on where the dimples are, do you think a good dent guy can get a tool in there without any trace damage? Thanks for the reply, I knew if anyone would know it would be you.

Can pull paint off but if I was doing paint anyway then I wouldnt worry but to paint the car as best as possible, the side glass and drip rails need to come off anyway.

I take that back. You could maybe try by pulling the upper consolette out and run the tool across to your dent. Thats about all you can do if you dont want to pull the headliner. There is a screw in the center of one of the lights that holds it to the headliner.

That might work. I am going to have him look at that option, anyone have a pic of the console removed?

Do what you are comfortable with
    I asked the same question
    High quality paints as glasurit
Stand a high likelyhood of never dislodgeing from primer or steel
In his travels only a few dislodged and they were older american cars
The entire roof impression removal, not deep or shallow dent took less than 5 minutes per spot.
If your dent is shallow , its a no brainer
There is enough paint there to polish out any residual marks.
