You cannot use the stock wheels with the brake set up he has.

I had the OZ/Enkeis on mine and I sold them as I did not like them. I like what Francisco has more and I think they're a great choice. Although I had a few custom made sets that are perfect and I found those to be the best solution but there are a few great choices for wheels on these cars with the big brake set up.

Lastly, I don't think that he cares much what a "casual reader" thinks.

There seem to be varying weights for the F40.

Bill measured his in at 3,001 with a full tank of gas: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/138857130-post193.html

A Euro one clocked in at 2,773 with a full tank of gas: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/138917811-post239.html

I understand about the wheels. Still, aesthetically, I don't like the Braids.

About the casual reader thing, I don't expect him to care anyway (not that I'm criticizing or anything), but I'm not sure how to feel about your comment :( I just wanted to take advantage of this forum which allows someone light years away from owning an F40 to chat with actual owners.

my idea is to change the wheels by a new wheels made by braid also but with the view more classic by the f40, and yes the rear are 13x18, the idea to change to 18 diameter was to can install the brembo brakes kit absolute necessary to install our ABS kit.
I show you the CAD doing by braid for my new wheels, are similar of originals but in 18

for the wheels probably the first braids are not to much esthetic,s, this second version are similar of original.
for the position of the car, is a decisition of my enginer, they do a setup, and decided this level position, yes the view is hidden but the feeling inside are much better and before. but it,s sure, ABS, new and modern suspensions, new setup, many things are changed in my car

Thanks you wheels are very pretty also, I can ask them about the cost.
The braid cost are very raisonable for this size of wheels

    Hello "Garretto",
I will explain you because we choose this criteria for the final setup of our F40.

    The challenge:
The car usually goes in public roads , cities, motorway, etc., and some times the car is used in closed tracks. This is the reason for make a setup thinking to 360º, the car need a minimun height for driving in his area, is necessary able to overcome speed bumps, to enter and exit without difficulty in garages, ramps, sidewalks, etc., if we had made a setup just for circuit, is clear that the car is not possible to drive it in the public roads.

The actual setup for the height of the car is a good compromise between both conditions. We work a lot of with the weight distribution, suspensions setup, arms position, camber, caster and toe, we have achieved a very good CoG of the car, now is only 326 mm., we have a good roll control of the car, good stability in both conditions (Low mu and High mu), good confort, etc. The final result is very very good, the car now allows us to enjoy during sport driving or in circuit. I sincerely believe we have achieved an ideal compromise, you can feel the full potential of the car in all conditions.

The weight of our car is only 1.204 Kg, we weight the car with half tank, usually this is the best compromise and without seats because in this moment are not available in the garage, consider plus 25 kg more o less, the estimate weight of the our car without driver and codriver is 1.230 kg.

weight ditribution: Fr 38,38% / Rr 60,62%, Cross is 49,81%

The big challenge of Mr. Francisco:
He is a great fan of sport cars, greatly enjoys of the driving and improving their vehicles. in this time, Mr. Francisco has decided to make a awesome improvements in his F40. This is one of his favorite cars. When he drive it, he feels a great satisfaction, this car have a big potential and some times, the car is dangerous when driving it by public roads.

For this reason, mr. Francisco, has taken the pioneering decision to improve his F40, the challenge is assembling a system of ABS and ASR in his car to enjoy it total safety.
This is the first time in the world, that an ABS system is installed on a F40.
Gents, this project started in April 2014, after 9 months, we tested the ABS system in circuit and the results are fantastic, awesome.

During this period, April to December, our job is to made and install a complete wiring harness, design and machined the sensor rotors for each wheel, design and machined the speed sensor brackets, front and rear, instal the ABS ECU, instal a new valve of brake distribution force with independent lines (RL /RH) this is mandatory to manage the pressure of each wheel as needed, install new complete brakes lines, from the brake pump to ECU, ECU to each caliper. In paralel, we provided all the information of the car, for make the specific software of ABS system. Before test the car in the circuit, is necessary to check the speed sensors of each wheel, the brake lines of each caliper, and make a learning process for the ECU.

I hope that everyone understand that this is not a normal improvement or a kit designed for this car, we search the supplier for the ECU, find the best location for the speed sensors for the front and rear wheels, etc., etc.

The most important thing is that the whole system of ABS, sensors, supports, wiring harness, brake lines, brake distribution valve, all the components, is posible to disassembled and return the car like OE, other interesting point is about the functions of ABS, is possible to choose between 9 different sensibilities and disconnect the system if you want.

Is dificult to explain in this brief lines all the project but Mr. Francisco has believed from the beginning in this project and today is a reality, his F40 is equipped with a ABS system and works very well:

    a.-increase the safety
    b.-increase the brake control
    c.-increase the stability during braking
    d.-reduction of brake distance

The next step is to use the speed signals of each wheel from ABS, for manage the ASR system and complete the maximum control during brake or acceleration in any situation.

The big advantage is, that now, is possible to instal both systems in all F40´s of the world or other cars without ABS system.

    Hello Gents,
how we promised, today we start the last phase of the improvement for our F40..... ASR function managed by Motec ECU.

Step 1.- Dyno Test (Std. ECU)
Step 2.- Check the results, max. power, torque, curve, etc.
Step 3.- This afternoon we start to remove some parts of engine (coolers, panels, etc.) for check the engine wiring loom, we need to connect the two Std. ECU in only one ECU (Motec), this is mandatory for do a perfect engine management. The ASR function, need to know all the time the current situation of the engine, in this case we need to change the criteria of 2 ECU, 1 for 4 cylinders (LH)+ 1 for 4 cylinders (RH), for only 1 and manage the engine like a engine V8 pure. This phases is really complicated, because is necessary to check what sensors can use from OE configuration, check if is necessary to include a new sensors, if is possible to use the current ignition, etc.

For the moment I will show you the dyno Test result of today, with the Std. ECU. This is for us the point zero, the target is increase the power engine more o less 50 cv, and increase a little the torque, and then make a ASR map basic (the final tuning is necessary to test on track).

In the next days I will continue to explain you the progress of this project.

Apologize if i missed it, but does the roberuta shocks have built in shock travel sensors? Any plan for them?

No, the Roberuta shock absorbers are without sensor. Roberuta offer a complet lifter kit for Ferrari F40, for front axel and rear axel if you ask it.
For the moment, we don´t consider to instal a linear sensor in this car, we have a complete data adquisition, that we used last year in our F458 Challenge during the tets. The linear sensors, normally are fixed to the shock absorber using a specific bracket for each shock absorber type, diameter, etc., For the Ferrari F40, the target is to respect near 100% the standar configuration of that car. All the improvement to made it in our car is for increase the safety working in three ways, 1.- Braking, 2.- Acceleration, 3.- Stability.

    - Braking: we install and fine tuning of ABS system.
    - Acceleration: Activate ASR Function, now in this moment, we are installing a Motec ECU and we will make a map for manage the ASR function.
    - Stability: we install a complete suspension kit Roberuta (Aragosta Shock Absorbers), with adjusting compresion & extension. this kit is possible to buy including the lifter kit, very interesting for us, because in our country there are a lot off speed bumps on the roads, and solve possible troubles in garage ramps.

Ah ok, im sure your well aware that MoTeC actually sells shock travel sensors.

If I understand correctly, you are utilizing two M800's? One for each bank. Thats pretty wild.

in my opinion we like to use only 1 m800, and have 2 banks together with 1 edu, but I ask my enginers and can answer you better

I will try to explain why we decide to use a Motec M800 for manage the engine of our F40.

The main idea of Mr. francisco is to improve his F40 for increase the safety when he drive it in public roads. The most critical points of the F40 is during braking or acceleration, the car is perfect when is used in closed tracks, but when the car is used in public roads, the tires usually are cool, not to ideal working temperature, in this conditions the tires performance, is poor, grip is less the 45% and for this, the stability during braking and acceleration is very critical.

First step - Install a ABS system - Target, Total stability during braking in all conditions (Dry, Wet, Circuit, etc.)
second step - Installa ASR system - Target, Total stability during acceleration. for this function we need use the wheel speeds, this information we have from the ABS ECU is send to the Motec 800 ECU. The ASR function, use a specific map tunned for each engine and driver, if we use 2 motect is not possible to manage this function with good results. we use only 1 Motec 800 for manage the engine map like a real V8 and the ASR function. The ASR function reduce the power of engine depending each situation modifying the torque, the turbo pressure, injection time, etc.

Regarding your question about the linear sensors for the shock absorbers, we do not decided use for the moment, the data aquisition from Motec, the car is used 80% in public roads and 20% in circuits, is for this reason we prefer tune the suspension setup by feeling.

I hope responded your question, if you need more information about the our work in the F40 of Francisco please don´t hesitate to ask about it.

hello I have many news, tomorrow my enginer mr amenos explain you better, but some news, the engine is ready to the run test, to end the calibrations of ASR.
the motel ecu is installed and work perfect, the power can be increase until 518 hp 6750 rpm and the torque 635 nm. I thing this new car with the ABS, ASR, 1200 kg, news suspensions, 518 hp, 635 torque, can be a very very serious dream car.
next steep Montmelo 9 mars to the final test and delivery the car to me............
puf I,m very happy with this long trip but I,m sure I can drive the best F40 in the wold.

Gents, following the instructions of Mr. Francisco, I will to explain you the actions that we made during the process of install the Motec ECU.

Remove completly the OE ignition wiring.
Desing and install the specific ignition wiring, from the Motec ECU to engine Ignition system.
Design a new engine map, now the engine is considered a real V8, with a only one ECU management, this is mandatory for a correct management of the ASR function.
Calibration sensors, The engine use a complete duplicity of the sensors, this is because there are two ecu and each ECU need his information. With Motec ECU, we only use the sensors from one side of engine.
Desing a pre map of ASR function, tables, wheel slip criteria, strategy to ASR intervention, timing, strength.

Results New Engine Map: we are very happy, our starting point is 457 hp and 535 Nw engine torque, now we have 518 hp and 618 Nw engine torqe......

    hp more 12% (61 hp)
Nw engine torque more 13.4% (83 Nw)

We decide to improve the engine power without take any risk for the durability criteria, the values of Lambda are very steady during all the range, CO2, etc.

    Legend:

(Ori1 and Ori 2) is related to Original Engine Map, starting point.
GMC OK, is the final New Engine Map
