I want to put my car on jack stands so I can get some work done like swapping cats and deleting secondary cats. I also want to leave it on jack stands for the winter. If I lift it using the jack point I wont be able to put a stand there. I know there are alt lift points has anyone used them lifting there car? Reason I ask is I wonder if the whole side of the car came up because they are farther forward or farther to the rear. Also when one side is up I wonder if you can get a hydraulic jack under the other side? I am also worried with one side up and jacking the other side it might push them off the stands.....Thanks in advance for any help

I put the jack right in front of the jack point fitting below the back edge of the door, jack it up, then put the jack stand just behind the fitting. I do the rears first, then the fronts. Then I would chuck two stands under the engine sub frame just to support all that weight back there. That being said, many feel leaving a car on jack stands for long periods is not a good idea. Leaving the suspension dangling ( ie: unloaded) is frowned upon.

On a visit to Fof CJ, Enzo, their head tech was doing some things on a 355 and I snapped this pic of the lift point he uses. This is the flat area behind the front wheel. There is a similar area in front of the rear wheel as well.

I think it's OK to repost Dave Rocks document as he has posted it before. I did all jacking from the factory jack points. Then I put the stands (in my case wood) under the four "unibody" points shown in green in the PDF. See my post yesterday ("up to the wheels off point ....". What you can't see in that photo is that I cut 8 pieces of wood 1 x 3 X 6 to cover the entire unibody strong points on top of the blocks. There are two on top of each stack to make clearance for the 4 X 4's. These top pieces could be on top of conventional stands. Or, you could go with hockey puck like Dave did. I wouldn't use anything smaller than that at the unibody contact points.

FYI - I also cut two small pieces of wood to fill in the "C channel" at the factory jacking points. That way I always had a wood pad for the jacks.

This picture has always helped me visualize alternative jack points. Often I lift from the rear points and use stacked & bolted 4x4s at strategic locations including the span across the transmission mounts (or motor mounts with the undertrays removed).

Just avoid the areas in yellow so as not to crack the radiators. The most common alternate lift point is just forward of these.

Racecars in the paddock we jack stand cars all the time. Take 5 minutes. Jack rear stock location lifts one whole side. Stand front stock location on jacking side. rear stand on craddle on jacking side. Move to other side jack from rear stock location rinse and repeat.

Can you get under the rear? Doesnt look like much room to swap cats and the space between them looks really narrow.

Mine go in the same spot. You can have it higher no problem. When swapping exhaust components the rear tires come off (and liners if needed) and you are working from all sides of the car, top and bottom, sides and center.

Yeah, it depends on what you are working on. When I have done the headers, cats and exhaust I have taken out more and more just for better access.

I have used DaveRocks guide for lifting and jacking.

I have one jack and 2 jacks stand from harbor freight. (Both aluminum)

I have used them to raise the whole front or the whole rear.

I jack up one side using the factory lift point and place a jackstand in the space identified in the document. I then repeat for the other side. I have used hockey pucks on the jack and stands as recommended and they work great.

I left the car with the rear end up and wheels off for 2 weeks while I did what I had to do.

    No problems.

sounds good...I am going to the same and spin the front wheels a little and over inflate it...I will do the same to the rear before I let it down

I'm not sure I understand what over inflating the tires will do if the wheels are off the ground or off the car?

In those pictures the Jack Stands are on the lowest level possible as i was just working on the calipers at the time....
but you could easily raise the stands another 8-9in without any issues at all....
