Nothing wrong with buying a car for a low price and fixing it up.
There was just a car purchased with a branded title on the recent copart auction that was a flood. I think he paid well more than this one.

I mean how bad could he have done for $30k? How much was that 89k mile car going for on EBay that was all dented up?

I happen to work on cars as a hobby. That may be a foreign idea to some folks; especially in the Ferrari community but there is nothing magical about it.

The car isn't a TMU look at the title, it was sold to me as an actual mile car last week, I have the copy of the bill of sale and title. Both of your posts referring to test driving the car without an odometer is news to me and hearsay on an online forum. Im sure its been painted, repaired, whatever and been around the block, but this gts has stood the test of time. I didn't justify anything by stating that people on this forum act unethically, now you are manipulating facts as you have been doing unsuccessfully since you first posted in this thread.

I will gladly write in the bill of sale when I sell it that MikeD355 had the car driven by the same inspector that said the seats were a mess and he said the speedo doesn't work, because that's really going to stop somebody from buying this car, there isn't any other negative on it other than your two test drives? LOL Also we cannot forget DRBOB101 drove it too. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Thanks for the support in this thread, I posted because I thought you guys would be interested. Instead, it is weird i posted shots rebutting all the alleged damage on the car, most of which was due to neglect and lack of cleaning from previous owners. A couple of hose clamps, some leather conditioner, wax, some allen keys to adjust door striker, a hack saw to cut open oil filter and inspect, and some time and I have a nice car that treats me well that is cosmetically acceptable.

Somebody did pay much more for a flood car lately. I also heard about that. But no body likes this car, maybe its the wheels.

TR512, I agree that people mess with the odos here, its not what this thread is about, I have other haters that just keep trying to throw this car under the bus so they write TMU hoping it goes in a google search. The car is what it is. Im happy. Its not perfect. But its great.

For 35k, you can't ask for much more.

To Everyone on the forum - myself included...

Let's all please move on and stop the witch hunt. It's a car. Let's enjoy his work moving forward. - yes moving forward.

It's a driver / and or project. We all have those. Some bigger than others.

There doesn't need to be a court trial of a success or failure of anything here. We can all agree that one man's filet is another's fried chicken. I can appreciate both. You can too.

Let's all check ourselves. If you haven't said anything positive today in a thread go breath, then visit a picture thread, see something beautiful, and come back in and play nice.

If you're still not happy go to P&R. Thanks.

    Robb

    It was advertised as TMU-

1995 Ferrari 355 GTS | Luxury Brokers International

Sorry Luke, don't want to make it seem like this is a witch hunt I just don't like when people post blatant BS.

"the seats are great"- ripped seams and basically destroyed as is the rest of the interior.

"the dash is perfect"- warped pulled leather

"the car isn't TMU"- advertised as TMU

I'll give you the airbag cover looks nice but I would also guess it's been replaced as it may have had airbag deployment. It's been in multiple accidents, had a salvage title and went through hurricane sandy, has US front/rear bumpers and one US and one Euro fender.

You thought we would be interested. Of course! It's an F355. Would have been great if you posted up that you picked up a cheap GTS to fix up. Welcome!

Instead you try to deny just about every known problem with the car while telling the rest of us we overpaid for our turned back mileage repainted scrap.

    Not cool IMO

From what I have observed, a certain number of individuals went to look at this car and passed on it. All have bad things to say about it. It has typical problem areas that were normal wear on a 20 year old car that is half price of a clean one. I am fine with its condition and very happy with my purchase. Everyone is fixated on the cars past condition, but it is being restored and cleaning up nicely.

The shop did a great job on the mechanical stuff they did handle, they aren't a detailing business so I can understand why they didn't address the small details. FRESH MAJOR!!

I posted photos for all to see my work in progress, and people keep rebutting with past photos of negatives. Its ok, because I went right back to show them otherwise.

Its ok, because I know what I paid for and I got a great deal. All the negative photo issues uploaded by other members were rectified, and I think they are speechless now because the issues were so easily resolvable. Sure the seat cushion has a split on the drivers side, I don't care. I sit on it and don't see it. The car has no leaks at all and fresh fluids, The carpets are clean, the spark plug covers are getting put on after work tomorrow, and as time permits I will improve the car further (might put a nice radio and speakers in, euro 95 model came with no radio, just the delete plate). If I wanted a perfect f355 gts, I would have spent another 40000.

Other than that I will just wait for the weather to warm up a bit and start driving it more!

I would hire an attorney (im sure there are more than a few here). If the title shows true miles......you got taken.

I didn't buy the car from that dealer. That was the shop it was at before I purchased. I can't tell you anything about the history other than you guys know, because I know nothing about the car apparently.

Fact- one ripped seam on seat, how does that make a destroyed interior?
Ferrarichat rebuttal- ripped seams and basically destroyed as is the rest of the interior.

Fact- The dash is perfect, the instrument pod is being recovered as stated previously
    Ferrarichat rebuttal- warped pulled leather

Fact-"the car isn't TMU"-go scroll back to my title and you can see it has an A next to the mileage. (I can't account for what has happened to the odometer since it was before my acquisition) Odo currently working.

Ferrarichat rebuttal- advertised as TMU (this one I can agree with after seeing the link), but you guys call it a TMU because of your test drives. Odometers break, life goes on, it doesn't matter. I didn't buy the car because it had 40 something thousand miles, I bought it because I like it.

It also has EURO rear bumper has the wide plate opening. Another fact!

You were doing good until you wrote that. I believe that's what pissed some people off since it gave the impression you were saying all those great things about the car just to sell it. But IMO you are just trying to prove to yourself you are not a sucker who bought a car everybody else, including the seller, knew it had a bad history. I'd even guess you only found out about those threads about the history of this car AFTER you bought it... Am I right?

BUT, I think you did get a good deal. Car is beautiful, got the major done, and you know it's a driver. So, congrats.

I was also interested in it last year but let me tell you the things that made me change my mind:

1- The seller saying it would make a good track car... big red flag.
    2- Autocheck showing salvage history
3- Fchat thread exposing more of its history, especially flood.
4- Email received from seller (pic below) BTW, I was very impressed with his honesty, from the ad on his website to the emails we exchanged.

But again, taking in consideration the fact you are a DIY'er and have low expectations, I believe you did good. Enjoy it!

I was doing well the entire thread. It is irrelevant if I eventually sell the vehicle. I am a 355 owner for over two years, and I stated my story of how I ended up with this car, which was apparently too honest for this forum.

For the record, I knew all about the car for the past 3 months and read every thread. I even delayed going to see it based on all the bashing that took place on this forum in regards to this vehicle. To my surprise the car was a 180 from how it was portrayed here. Hence the reason I made this thread, to dispel the rumors. I welcome myself to the forum and the anal clowns go and post any flaw they can on the car. LOL

All the type A personalities that need to argue every negative flaw of my car need to go elsewhere. It simply isn't a mess, all I did was give the interior some leather treatment and general TLC. I rebutted and showed the true story of the car. All facts.

Everyone keeps saying the car needs a new interior, that is UNTRUE.

I will put the 40k towards a nice TT conversion and see you all at the racetrack.

Will continue to update this thread as work is performed! Until then, I am out.

This has been a real interesting conversation to say the least. There seems to be strong feelings toward a car being labeled "TMU". As time goes on this will be a non issue for all of us because most states have rules regarding older cars where they acknowledge that real milage is hard to verify. They call the vehicles "exempt" and either state this or list nothing on the title. When I lived in AZ they encouraged the use of exempt but you could request the milage be placed if you had the proper signed document which I always procured. Last year when I moved to NC and registered the vehicles here they would not under any circumstance put the milage on the title if the vehicle was over TEN years old. I purchased a 2001 Porsche last August with low miles from a dealer and had the signed odo documents and they would still not put the miles on the title when I requested it at the DMV, the space on the title is just blank. I am sure more states have or will have similar rules moving forward so TMU is going to be a non issue.

As for the new member, welcome and enjoy the car. I like your enthusiasm for the mark and I look forward to hearing future remarks as you improve the car and bring it to a higher level.

And for the record, this car is NOT a salvage car. CLEAN TITLE. It is irrelevant if it was damaged in the past, repaired, targa left off in rain, whatever happened. I have collected all the history and printed it for my records. I do know it has an accident on autocheck. It is not a salvage title nor was it ever a salvage title. Not a washed title car either go trace the history. I even called the previous owner up on the phone and found out more history of how it ended up here the other day. Autocheck uses deceptive wording which was discussed in a previous thread about this car, one can find that with a basic search.

    Thanks for the positive comments!

I don't know your future intentions with this car nor do I care as I am not interested in buying the car now or in the future.

What I am interested in, however, is any reconditioning or repair you do to the car whether it be for future sale or for your own enjoyment, as I suspect many members are.

So I hope you continue to post your progress and techniques and if you still have the car by Spring, I would like to see the progress you have made.

You mentioned having the dash pod recovered. Do you have any plans to repair the seats, even if its just restitched the ripped portion vs recovering the whole thing? Clearly, you are working with a leather shop. If they can't handle it, DrBob knows a company right in NJ that may be able to help.

You also mentioned the wheels. I among those who like the OEM wheels the best. Any plans to switch back to stock?

I don't think DRBOB101 is willing to help out with any leather repairs, he is more interested in posting photos of the dirty trunk liner and calling the trunk bay rusted because he inspected it very thoroughly.

Here is the trunk liner, plain water rinse and a brush and all the "rust color" from the leaky heater core hose is gone. Like magic! And of course there is no rust at all in the trunk.

I would wager to say every 355 ends up with the SAME leak in the luggage bay so you should check yours ! If you don't somebody might call your trunk rusted

I put these great dash vent overlays on, they are great quality. No, the vents weren't sticky at all, I just happen to like the look! Take a look at that dash, how worn is it in comparison to other members? I know the fuel gauge is missing, a new one is on the way :)
