The Napa 13-8299 is about the only alternator replacement I have seen that looks right and will fit my car without any extra brackets. I hope this is not a dumb question, but the back of it has 3 holes for wires, instead of one- which is the correct one to use. The napa people are talking about purchasing some sort of special adaptor plug.....?

Why do you guys not simply have the original alternator rebuilt?
You can even find them on ebay, you can also send the alternator to a Bosch service station, they will replace all bearings, the rotor and install a new diode plate.

Doesn't cost a fortune and is for sure better than trying to install an alternative.

I have an update on wheel bearings. Whereas the Mazda bearings are 1mm greater in depth SKF now produce correct size wheel bearings!!!!! These fit Citroen DS3 and some Peugeots if I recall. The SKF kit is VKBA 3683. They have an ABS sensor ring on one side. I have purchased four and they will be fitted to the Silhouette shortly.

I can now report that we have encountered problems fitting the SKF VKBA 3683 bearings. Although the dimensions are all correct it looks like they are unable to cope with the lateral pressure when the nut is tightened. I do not have any more details and further investigation will be carried out but at the moment it doesn't look like these can be considered as a replacement. I will up date you when I discover more.
