Look at post #13 by OMGJON. The first car has flares as does the the car with the plate GT DINO. In post 13, the first and last pictures are the same color, but you can see how the wheel fender area is perpendicular to the body, vs being slightly angled out.
Perception is it is rare, and therefore desirable. For people collecting lots of cars, they hear this is the combo to have and thus the craze began. I think that is a crazy reason for buying such a car, but to each his own. I have never looked at to buy or bought a Flares car. When I stand next to them, they look funny to me. Imagine seeing an attractive woman, with ridiculously HUGE, fake, ummm... "Headlights"..... You lose sight of the natural beauty and stare at something that doesn't quite look natural. I have always had that impression about the Flares. I am not trashing them, they just are a specific option you need to like to pay a ridiculous amount of money for.
I totally agree with u dude - to me the flares are like diamonds on a rolex its hard to believe chairs and flares get 100k premium I get the chairs - I like those - but again don't think it shld command more money
I can honestly see how a car with chairs looks better and might bring a bit more money. I don't understand flares. What I really don't understand is the price premium. It doesn't really exist with colors, which are easily changed. Same for these options. It's like saying a U.S. spec car with vinyl interior is rare, it should bring more money. It doesn't make sense either.
My coupe #7098 is a very low kms totally original 2 owner car with original paint and leather trim. It was delivered new with flares and campys but no chairs . The original factory order papers have been attached to another post on this site.
I own a chairs and flares car and I will be the first to admit yes it does not make a ton of sense. However, what we think does not matter much I learned that a long time ago. there has been an established premium for many many years for a chairs and flares car because they only made a very small few. Its not a premium based on 1 car selling at a high price at a recent auction, its a long standing fact in the market place with many buyers and sellers. I can make the same case for many cars. I owned a 94 turbo S package car from porsche. That car is 99% the same as a 3.6 Turbo. The difference is 2 side scoops, and like 10 HP. The difference in 10 HP or some small number like that it not exactly noticeable yet the package car is worth like 4x what a 3.6 Turbo is worth. Again I had the car and thought it was silly but thats just the market because of how rare they are. A 3.6 Turbo porsche is 99% the same as a 91 Turbo yet again its 99% the same as a 3.6 Turbo yet a 3.6 Turbo is 3x the price. 993 Turbo S vs 993 turbo same thing There are many examples of this. In reality the premium of a chairs and flares dino is pretty small considering its around 25% or so compared to sone of these other examples.
Or that there are probably twice as many (or more) '32 Ford Roadsters today than originally produced and we're talking perhaps hundreds of thousands examples... No joke though !
So true! Compounding the "counterfeiting" problem of so-called "tribute" cars that may be innocently sold the first time, with full disclosure, and subsequently morph into "originals" on later sales, with '32 Ford roadsters, you can buy a complete, brand-new steel body which is doubtless better-built than the original. It's no longer merely a matter of bringing a low-spec model up to higher-tier status, and fooling a buyer in the process. It's George Washington's axe, all over again! Fred
... and if it's sold through a "reputable" (TV?) auction/circus venue, accompanied by adequately(?) "washed" title + some "documentation", most potential buyers won't dare to question its authenticity.
This car has Flared wheel wells, several angles of that front fender https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQUY0cVV4O0
I think this is a magical question.... I don't think it is as much as it should be. Part of this fact is why I think the "Chairs and Flares" option is a suckers price. I hate to say that, but I think it is true. Shawn
With this being an awesome Dino, it has to be noted the "Flares" are not factory. This Dino is the first one we witnessed on F-Chat that OMGJON worked his magic on Shawn
