Is it really necessary to have the fences on these pulleys welded?

I've heard that the pressed fence can fail destroying everything in its path!

That part was updated/upgraded with extra welds due to potential problems....same as used on the 360

Sorry but I don't have that info........Dave Helms was telling me about the fence failures and when I ordered new lower pulleys from the factory I noticed they had added the additional welds which were not on my 1997 factory assembled engine.

Sounds like welding is cheap insurance.

I have read this recommendation in many service threads and it does make for added insurance against a failure. I also wonder about how the weld may affect the balance of the modified pulley especially at the rpm speed our engines are capable of hitting. Just a thought.

Sorry Grant but I don't have any pics...I'm going off my memory concerning this.

I just noticed a difference in what was on one of my 97 engines versus the new ones I got from the factory in 2006

PN is 154238 No. 8 in TAV, below - $455.51 from Ricambi (same PN for F355 2.7/5.2 and 360).

Bruce is absolutely right about Dave Helms recommending welding.

What type of plating is that? Color looks like Cadmium, but too homogeneous. Nice job!

BTW, I screwed up the Ricambi price. It should be $405.51.

Ah, good ol' Ferrari Assembly Numbers. Don't trust them. For example, all F355s after Assembly No. 29,689 were supposed to have ungraded valve guides. However, rather than getting the old valve guides out of stock, Ferrari mixed them in with the ungraded versions. Not too bright.
