    I have a similar experience.

As Taylor Swift said- the haters are gonna hate hate hate (maybe a few more times).

I say let them, those who get ahead don't get caught up hating. That's just a waste of energy (most of the time).

After being married and divorced twice I was thinking about another long term commitment. So buying a Ferrari is like paying for the divorce up front, you know how much it is today. Did not get a PPI but do have local service records (talked to her ex BF) If she has a physical/mental breakdown I don't have to panic, I can just throw the cover over her and ignore her for awhile. Enhanced body parts will be decided by me and purchased when I want. Parts are covered under birthdays, Valentine's day, anniversaries etc. Big vacation is an engine out service, small vacations are annual services and up keep.
Think of your car as a wife or mistress and it all makes sense to me.

Good comment! My one and out experience was with a Jag group. What a bunch of poseurs who knew nothing about cars!

Welcome to this group! It IS the people.

Love It! Do you see all the drivers barely keeping the car on their side of the road as they enter the dealership complaining that the car has to have an oil change? no?

that's right because this isnt a Toyota dealership.

    hehehe

edit: No aging hippies with grey hair living in Vermont or Portland. no this isn't a Subaru dealership.

Crab mentality is one of the most distasteful character traits a person can have. But unfortunately, it is very prevalent in our western society. It is disgusting.

I had a guy the other day ask me, and this was completely out of nowhere at 6.45 am Wednesday morning while dropping an employee off at the airport, "Does the name on your drivers license say *******?" And I was not even in a super flashy car(991 Cabrio)! I first thought it was a joke and was quite surprised at the same time, so didn't say much other than, No. The he looked at me and said, "Well it should, because only rude morons drive sports cars." It was only like 5-10 mins later while cuing at the airport Starbucks for coffee my co-worker and I actually sort of realized what had happened. We were both just completely dumbfounded by the whole thing while it took place.

    Oh well, upwards and onward:)

I love cars. I love beautiful cars. I love niche cars. I love driving small sports cars. I cringe at the attention it draws from random people just driving around. I love talking about it with people who are real car enthusiasts. I love working on it myself. The most relaxing time I have in my life is in the garage with Velocity on the TV and the F355 on jacks in a state of disassemble. I love the history of cars more and more every day.

There is a lot to love about cars and Ferrari's.

I love to drive my Ferrari...I'm not rich. I drive with blinders on. I don't care who is looking at me, I don't listen to the radio, I just listen to the engine and smell the leather...

This is the definition of the psychological term, "Projection", i.e. Projecting yourself and personal characteristics on another person.

I don't really know how to respond. I couldn't afford car insurance in HS. So I didn't drive my junk car, that I purchased broke and fixed. I was always a blue collar worker. But I loved engines and all things mechanical. I got pure satisfaction down thru the years taking apart my motorcycles and cars so any engine does not intimidate me. I have read everything I could on hi-performance racing engines, especially F1. So buying my TR at 61 was something I thought would never happen.
The biggest appeal to me is the racing evolution and just the idea of a 12 cyl, 4valve engine. I purchased my TR at a good price because it needed major service etc. I thoroughly enjoyed dropping the engine and replacing all the belts, hoses, fabricating a SS exhaust and fixing little things like elec. windows and corroded switches. So driving my Ferrari out on rural roads un-seen by myself with just the sound of the engine is magic for me.

I am offended :) Kidding, this was not a troll post but could see how it would be interpreted as one. I just feel like it's the big elephant in the room to some people. I have really enjoyed reading the responses.

I didn't buy this car because of its name, I bought it because its slower than a corvette and more expensive to repair than a BMW.. yet I don't care that other people look at me when I'm driving it, actually it annoys me. *insert story about working in rice fields here as a 3 year old child and this car is a reward to me.. but it isn't because I don't like that people view it as a something special..* Blah blah blah talk down aspirations because someone out there will be jealous.

BS. It's a Ferrari. It's beautiful and it has a provenance that makes it special. When you drive it people look at you. That envy that you see.. yeah its there. Don't pretend it's not. We've become so ****ed up as a country that any status symbol is forbidden and we should all be happy driving a bland car as everyone else. F-that. If someone likes the car, get off your ass and work for it. Yes it is special. Yes that is part of the reason I wanted it, and it part of the reason I yearn to drive it every week. Cut the politically correct BS that is sinking this country. *end rant*

IMO there is are at least three types of Ferrari owner.
    Those that own new ones.
    Those that own older "drivers"
And those that collect the exotics.

And the stereotypes of each group pretty much fit. I'll leave it up to you to figure out what that is ;)

Nice post, I share your sentiment.

Personally, I don't give a flying ****. I worked my way through college, sold my blood plasma, earned three degrees, landed a great job, worked hard at something I loved and decided to reward myself by purchasing my dream cars (after taking care of my family and donating to the needy).

I also realize that I am the caretaker of these fine cars for the enjoyment of future generations.

**** the Prius crowd who shun our hard work and prosperity. Political correctness is devastating the U.S. Work ethos.

The lack of self-worth in our population results in the two phenomena that plague our ownership of so-called "status symbols":

    1. Working to goals that other people think you should have, and not for what YOU want (i.e. someone driving a brand new $45k CUV hulk of depreciation and saying "someday I'll have a cool car")
    2. Minding other people's business (or lives, or property) when you should be minding your own (i.e. "Do you really need a car like that?")

You're absolutely right that Ferraris are status symbols. They are desirable because they are perceived to be "special." If someone has a problem with that, it's not the car's fault.

I'm surprised this has not been called out as a troll thread, but I'm game for philosophical discussion!

During the depression in the thirties, people quit driving fancy cars to not offend the less fortunate. But that was a different time. There was no social programs, you didn't work, you didn't eat.

It's an age thing also. Most people see an older person in a ferrari they think rich CEO. They see a young person they think spoiled kid.

It's a toy and I've had lots of other ones over the years. I can fix it myself and I enjoy playing around with it when I'm not at work trying to make "honey out of dog ****" keeping old helicopters burning and turning for my employer. I really don't enjoy the occasional attention I get or the arguments the cheap skate members here like to present when knowledgeable mechanics attempt to share their wisdom when it comes to keeping these cars running at a modest cost. Be that as it may it's still fun and I always try to help when I can. I always question peoples sensibilities when I see how many post's they are responsible for? ie, get a life, it's just a car ? The trick to owning an "exotic" is to beat the system by doing it on a budget and have fun at the same time. If you are a regular guy such as myself and don't have the skills to maintain it you probably can't afford it.......

I know many of you will stop reading when I say my age; 18.

I'm 18, live in Australia (The land where Ferrari makes the most profit off their cars... Lmao) and come from a comfortable background.

In saying so, many people think at my age, I like and want a Ferrari to purely pose, which is far from reality. In the future, I do hope to buy a Ferrari (Hopefully a Rosso Scuderia 458 <3 ), but the thing is, I'm fascinated and pretty much, follow Ferrari by religion.

There's just something about the cars, (I'm Italian), they're pure Italian masterpieces, the looks, the craftsmanship, the effort, the sound, the details.. Just everything combines to create one purely amazing automobile, which may not be the fastest etc, but it surely does touch my heart to an extent..:)

I love how others admire Ferraris, especially knowing, where they're from, my family immigrated from.

I could blabber on, and of course, I wouldn't pose but I surely would be proud to own one, and I may say mentally I'd show off, but in reality, I'm not that kind of person, it makes me feel bad.

In turn, I'd be that guy who would share the car with people, not garage queen the vehicle.

I hope this makes sense, since I'm writing this on a phone.

I'll happily answer questions from an 18 year old perspective about Ferraris and such.

To me, Ferraris are not simply cars, they're something much more, they're living beasts..

    I sound so corny >.<

It is nice to have opinions/imput by the next generation, most of us started to have the passion at their age (I started when I was 10).
If these "unobtonable cars" help plant the seed to constantly surpass themselves and ultimateley achieve to be a good familly provider/citizen/professional/entrepreneur and ultimately reward themselves
with this goal then we should promote/ welcome their venue in our chat, after all they will be the next keeper of our bellas.
Allizi I wish you all the best in your quest, you have all your life in front of you to achive your goal but only one so use it wisely.
    Bonne chance
