I purchased two of them a few years back (originally OEM for 599s, 430s and 612s, I think)... got the first one for $1500 from Audio Illusions (Kevin was great) and then got a good deal on a second one... so I snatched it up as a spare. They pop up on eBay every now and then... right now, there are two listed: Factory Ferrari Navigation CD and Bluetooth Becker BE6112 Code | eBay Factory Ferrari Navigation CD Player Head Unit w iPod Adapter BE6112 | eBay My spare is in excellent condition... I don't really have any immediate need for it (originally thought it would be cool to use if I purchased another older Ferrari, as you can change the color of the display to match any color interior.... but I decided not to purchase another car for now). I'd probably sell it for around $750+shipping (I think I originally bought it for a little over $1000, but the prices seem to have come down. List price at Ricambi with navigation, though, is still $7043 Ferrari Parts : 232071 FERRARI CASCADE 6112 : Ricambi America). My unit comes with the security code, but it doesn't have a manual (you can download the pdf version here: http://www.beckerautosound.com/pdf_guides/6111%20Operations%20Manual%20(US-US).pdf). You'll have to purchase the navigation software and antenna separately... and there's an iPod connector (I've seen them on eBay for ~$150) that will allow you to control your iPod through the head unit, but it's with the old Apple connector. The blue tooth works, but there's a little mic that you'll have to purchase... I think you can purchase most of the accessories new from Becker Autosound. I bought it primarily for the stereo and because I think it matches the car really nicely. Send me an email if you're interested in my spare unit.
Also, the really cool thing for me was that I purchased a standard 355/Becker connector at Ricambi (Ferrari Parts : 182025 RADIO CONNECTING CABLES -Valid : Ricambi America) for under $75, and rewired the new Becker unit to this connector... so after I took my Sony unit out, this new Becker unit plugged right into the car's wiring harness with no modification! So if I want to go back to the OEM unit, I can simply pull out the Becker unit and plug the Sony OEM unit right back in. I thought that was pretty slick!
Badabing, That is a cool discovery. I have only seen the becker (360 radio) unit in '99's. Never anything earlier. Maybe everyone just got the optional Sony... I'll have to check our '97 GTS window sticker to see if it specified. It has an aftermarket pioneer currently that is only a year or two old. I definitely don't like the looks. It has satellite radio and sounds ok. Robb
Vanity has nothing to do with caring how something looks to YOU. Vanity is an insecurity of how YOU look to everyone else. Pretty sure that none of us actually use the stereo. However, it does sit right in front of you and the 80s boom box look is tacky so it needs to change. Understand now?
Check out the Alpine ida-x305s. I has complete ipod functionality and sounds great, but still manages to look correct in early 90s cars. They're available NIB on ebay for around $200.
I had a P800prs that was awesome. I would expect the P99rs to be the same and they are very classy looking IMO. Here's my Alpine, I would guess it's about as old as the car. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Robb,99s started out with the sony stereo..There was also an optional sony stereo then..looks very close to the regular sony radio then later on in 99 they switched to becker completely..
I have the Carrozeria DEH P01 , which is basically the Japanese version of the Pioneer DEXp99rs. It definitely looks like it belongs in my car that's for sure. If you guys are looking for a high performance head unit, this is it. expect to pay $800-1100 for one though. The Carrozeria does come with a nice compact 50 watt amp which is more than enough for me. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Backlight can also be tuned to pretty much whatever color you want. You can set the hue... Red, orange, green, blue, purple, white etc...
Just curious... for those of you with head units with multiple colors... do you prefer something that matches the car's other instruments in green or a slightly different color to contrast the stereo from the other instruments? I am on the fence, but kind of like the latter, slightly different color. Would love to hear your opinion. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Just buy one that's infinitely adjustable and you can make it any color you want. Many offer that option.
I really wanted a reason to by the DEX-P99RS but it doesn't have Bluetooth or work with the Galaxy 5S phone, so no way to play music off anything other than an iPhone.
