Hi, I'm just starting to look at TRs thinking 12 is better than 8. Can you please critique this for me in that cynical yet beloved FC tradition? Ferrari Testarossa Base Coupe 2 Door | eBay
repaint, no tools? At what point does Testarossa's start getting full high end restorations where mileage does not count so much?
I looked at this one also, I spoke with the dealer, long story short it looks like a total repaint, high miles, not 100% sure on service history either, plus the weird power antenna on the back left....pretty edgy looking TR IMHO.
Lol, i love how the threshold for' so cheap' has raised to 67k. Last year the ' so cheap' threshold was around 40k.
It is an auction. yes the ad is poorly executed and you should go see the car first, but its going to bid higher! A better question would likely be "why so expensive"? my answer would be "The Testarossa is very desirable to just about everyone".
The power antenna on the back is for me the biggest red flag of "weird stuff happened to this car". I don't think this car is a "deal" by any stretch - most likely you would be better off buying a higher priced, better sorted out car.
Nothing can be judged "cheap" until you see it with your own eyes. Same goes for a car that many feel is over priced, it may be perfectly priced for you.
Power antenna on back of car means antenna in Windshield does not work, or the windshield was replaced with an aftermarket windshield. Easy to justify replacing the windshield on a 43,000 mile car, but in the pecking order of cars, each is a detraction on value. Love to see a post where a TR at 67k is CHEAP! Frankly they are cheap considering the average price on 328's on ebay right now is over 75K. A fairly clean WHITE 1990 TR was sold on ebay a few weeks back in the mid 80's. It was listed three times without the reserve being met at 75K and then it sells for 10K over the reserve. Amazing what just a month has done to buyers perceptions of these cars. Big change from this year, from just last year.
Has anyone actually looked at this car IN PERSON? Not just talked to the salesperson...actually looked at this car? Unless a power antennae is two inches long, motor and all, you would have to cut a hole in the left rear wheel well and still the unit would be rubbing the left rear tire! My "guess" is, it was a mobile phone antennae at one time.
12 is better than 8 Especially if it's a boxer engine (smiles) The cacophony of music it puts out with test pipes (cat deletes) and a Tubi is simply amazing Sent via itty bitty electrons
I learnt a long time ago in real estate (not US) that if you hesitate, there'll soon come a day when you may regret the so called "over priced" deals that you passed in. Not saying this particular car is a good deal but I once hesitated on a <9,000 mile all original TR for $50k. That was less than 2 years ago. Good luck in your search, keep you eyes peeled and ears pricked but don't hold out for that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. These cars are now on the radar of those with the means and motivation to outbid the best of enthusiasts.
mbrandonmotorcars has taken in some nice TR and 512Tr examples recently. They were very nice looking examples, to my eye...
This is my time to shine I guess. I have wanted to find a way to comment on the car. I saw it about a week or two ago. I flew out to MD from CA. I had a price range negotiated. I tore the car apart basically. If you look up the person Megan Bailey you can find that she is the producer and stars in a show called the car chasers. This car was on that series. IT was purchased for a claimed $30k it had sat outside and it needed new paint and seats. No maintenance had been done. I cannot verify that black was this cars original color. I found flecks of red on the side strakes and the lower fiberglass valence. The paint was in bad condition, the seats were a bad recover, it needs mechanical work, the driver seat back would not lock into place, it has an antenna in the right rear window and the left rear fender. The carpet in the trunk is crunchy and nasty, wheels were refinished poorly. It drove fine, I had fun driving it, except that the gauge cluster didnt work and the miles weren't increasing. From the pictures it looks great and I had high hopes for this car. I am really wanting an 87 TR. If anyone has any more questions please ask. I also took a lot of pictures.
That T.R. had some issues with the front bumper / light housing and front hood not aligning correctly. As you say, one month made a huge difference.
Good job on the in person report. So the repaint is of a different color AND in poor condition. It has been in background shots on a couple of their episodes. I wonder if it will be relisted after this auction. Last peek, it was $67k. I hope the buyer is kept abreast of the condition and doest get surprised.
Carpet crunchy, gauges don't work, needs interior....salvaged flood car? FYI--I would rather watch re-runs of Oprah than watch Car Chasers.....crappy show with junk cars.
