I got tied up with end of the month stuff.....

I have decided to go with the Blue Dino after a ridiculous amount of thought.

Seeing the colors on a large format spray out is a lot different than seeing a small swatch.

Looking at the spray outs in different sunlight/over cast conditions, these colors vary a huge a mount.

The Blue Dino is much brighter than I would have thought. Think modern Mini blue color. It is pretty darn bright in direct sunlight. Blue Sera is awesome, but looks dark on overcast days.

If I was driving the Dino daily, I would have gone with Sera. Since the Dino will be living indoors, for the most part, The Blue Dino is the winner.

Looking back at the color I have always known this car to be (which isn't a Ferrari color at all, it is a Pontiac color), Blue Dino is the closest matching color.

For those of you considering different colors, be prepared to start beating your head against a wall. Once you think you can stop, go ahead and hit a couple of more times.

I think what has amazed me the most, is how colors look so different in digital displays. Same car photo'd at different time looks completely different on the laptop/phone/iPad/etc...

Here are a couple of pictures of how I have always known the car.

    Shawn and Jon -

I finally located an original Scaglietti paint sample fan, and found that the metal flake in the 1972 period Blue Dino Met - 106 A 72 is EXTREMELY fine, much finer than I have seen in almost all American paint codes/samples that claim to be supposedly equivalent to the original Euro mixes.

The sample card (photos below) is pretty small - about 3" x 1".

Dennison International is scanning my paint sample card now and will be doing spray outs on cards and shaped metal in the next few days. They will also be doing some scanning/sampling/comparisons with some untouched/protected areas on my Dino in the next week or so.

I have two questions for you -

1, What size are your shaped metal paint outs?

    2. Are you using ultra fine flake or something else even finer?

    Thanks,

Mark (PM me if you wish)

I believe we are using Ultra Fine flakes. The shaped spray outs are about 6 to 7 inches. Getting painted today!!

It will be beautiful when you are fiinished, no matter the color, but especially so in 106-A-72 - but I am of course more than a little biased in that regard!

Paint day!! The base coat is on and now there is a 24 hour window to clear coat. More photos tomorrow after clear coat. I can't wait to see it in the sun!. One of my favorite colors on a Dino. The first 3 pictures are with blue tinted sealer. The next ones are base coat.
