Thanks. I'm not worried about the owners forum I just want to PM some and see if they would be close enough to get together and cruise this summer.

I meet with at least 8-10 F-chat Ferrari owners every Sunday during the warm weather. Is that all I need to get into the owners forum?

    Brian,

I have reached out several times to find f-chatters in MT to no avail. Makes me think we're the only two who want to be social or the only two who f-chat! In my opinion, getting together with fellow Ferrari owners is a big part of the fun of ownership. In fact, I feel so strongly about that, I bought a trailer so I can haul the long and boring Interstate's to meet up with active FCA regions to participate in their activities and cruises. (Hope they'll accept me :) Glad to know you're "only" 365 miles away! If there's even one Fcar between us, I don't know about them. I'll PM you.

I see a lot of Ferraris with Montana plates.

Trouble is that they're all in Florida.

So true ... As evidenced by the trouble I had getting a custom plate. My first 20 choices were taken!

I can vouch for Lee's 550, provided he can answer two questions. But I can't identify the black 575M, despite the UK and Dutch plates.

I spend my life documenting Ferraris. Based on the UK registration, I'm familiar with your 550. But despite trying to identify the 575M, even with the UK and Dutch plates, I don't seem to have any record of it. That's not to say that it doesn't exist - just that those plates aren't in my database matched to another Ferrari. Speaking of which, I'd really love to know the serial number of your 575M.

    Aaah ok.

I think the point however is to vouch for an owner & his ownership. Not the fact that his car exists or not.

    Cheers though

He's a VIN & Beyond Collector who has a growing collection of many dossiers of many, many Ferraris.

Yes, I understand. But I have, in the past, vouched for cars that I did not physically see in person - but the information in my database confirmed that the people claiming ownership actually owned them.

If it was up to me, I'd let you into the owner's forum solely based on the pictures you've posted. Clearly you own the car - pictures at the factory, pictures in Casino Square, etc. But, (un)fortunately, it's not up to me who (and how) gets into the owner's forum.

Then you're not understanding the requirements requested of those doing the vouching and that could damage your reputation here eventually. Your records may confirm that the car exists, that its configuration matches a photo provided, and that the name in your records matches the VIN. What it doesn't do is match that an Fchat user is actually the person with that name nor does it create an event where the voucher and the user meet somewhere.

It should also be noted that the sponsor verification option is supposed to be a rare hardship exemption for those users that could legitimately claim they were hundreds of miles from any other user. It is not supposed to be on equal footing with the preferred verification requirements of 3 users or a moderator.

I've been trying to get added to the owners forum since I joined a few months ago. I don't understand why it's so difficult. I tried to contact a moderator, my dealer, etc. I find it a bit ridiculous that it's this difficult. I'm sitting here holding the title in my hands.

But in some cases, I can ask said user questions that only that real person would know, subsequently verifying that said user is actually said user. I do nothing but deal with data day in and day out; I'm not the blind leading the blind here. The people I've verified are just a fraction of the number of people I haven't verified for one reason or another. Please understand exactly what it is people have asked of me, what I've done, and exactly what it is I do and don't do before suggesting anything about my reputation. I tirelessly toil over what I do - I don't just throw out data like spaghetti on a wall to see what sticks.

These threads always crack me up.... and yes, I once was wanting a WAHHHHHHMBULANCE too until I "got it".

Still always funny to read after all these years.

There are quite a few FerrariChat Members in the UK, which is not all that large a land mass.

Yep choosing not too. Wouldn't want to share a beer with someone like this anyhow(not my words). And while I have been called a condescending ass for my comments on the matter - can't say this isn't far from that either.

Even if you go the extra steps, which you didn't mention, of verifying the user against the data, that's still only a fraction of the issue. We've had at least two cases where a teen-age family member was pretending to be the owner and they could easily have access to the title docs or private info. You're also missing the part where one of the reasons for a physical meeting is social. As you describe it, those you've substituted your data verification process for are bypassing an event where the user and the voucher meet. When you make a data verification as you've described it, you should tell Andreas that's what you've done and that you're not vouching for a physical meeting, which is the actual requirement. It's up to Andreas whether he will accept your data verification as a substitute for a physical meeting after that.

    Steve,
There are a few of us in Montana. I meet at least two or three F-chat people passing thru the state every summer. A couple of years ago there were several here in my town for the Going to the Sun Rally. They stage at different spots in Montana every year. Its really not very hard to find a few to vet you. You just may have to take a drive.
