Jose- I had a head-start. Got my first Vette in 1968.
Taz I am impressed, the only race car I was involved with was a Datsun 510 in B production class and when the big V8s woolf pack passes by me = what a roar, it still gives me great memories.
Small detail, but just to clarify...Datsun 510s ran in B Sedan because they were a 4 seater. Production classes were 2 seaters.
GS- Further point, all the Bob Sharp 510s were two doors, like their Alfa competition, but they did indeed run in B Sedan. B production included cars like the small block Corvette and Jaguar E-Type.
Hi Taz, Spoke with Scott. Very nice guy. Laughed a bit when describing the sound quality of what we are dealing with. He is going to check his references and let me know. Thanks a lot for the help. BTW I used your name as source of information. I hope you don't mind. I should have asked you first. Jose
Jose- Scott and I are friends, so no sweat. He is really good with stereos on Ferraris and will even provide owners their Becker code, no charge, if they have lost it. He just needs the serial number.
Hi, Terry turns out the dealer didn't go to the door diagram where the speakers are located... Turns out they are in stock at FNA.... Jose, nice car never seen an SA in white! Let me know when you want me to put in a speaker and amplifier system that your car deserves.... Scott
I agree. Too bad that there are so very few 550/575s in Bianco Avus. Love it with the Bordeaux interior (although beige looks good here as well)...
We were racing the poor man's Bob Sharp version with home made suspension bushings and tuning, shaved BFGoodrich Radial TA, we had genuine fun for a low budget amongst the BMW 2002-the Brits-the Frenchs and of course some Fiats and Alfas. At the time I had the hots for an Alfa, a magnificient genuine twin plugs Auto Delta GTV. What a beauty and at one time later on its owner offer it to me in perfect condition for $ 10,000. Just started in life thinking about a house and family so I had to let it pass oh well " c'est la vie". He my friends here is an idea about a thread subject: the missed opportunities. Why don't we list cars that we could have at the time with the then offerded prices and their worth now? That should be interesting.
HI Scott, Again, thank you for the information you sent me and the compliment. I had to put the radio issue aside and take care of other things. I don't think its going back to the dealer for this. I will probably go aftermarket. At least I found out I was not the only lucky one to get crappy sound from my car. Taz, I use Rec gas (90 octane no ethanol) with no apparent issues due to the lower octane. Do you foresee any? Thanks.
Hi Northman, Hope you are doing well. That thread would be endless and would probably cause a lot of tears. My wife says I now hoard everything. She wants a smaller house (kids gone), I want a bigger garage (can keep more toys).
I am doing well thank you Jose, the thread idea would bring some laughs also. As for the familly situation/house we are both alke, fortunately for me my 115 years old house is fairly small and sufficient for our needs (750 sq feet/per floor=2 floors plus basement). The plus side is my 40'x20' barn with mezzanine and add on 20'×25' garage (altogether 60' wide with access). For the next year or so I intend to winterize the whole thing with heated slabs and 200 amps electrical panel. That would be sufficient for 6 cars on the main floor with my bikes on the mezzanine. Another life long dream will be achieved health permit.
Scott, a local auto electronics shop is recommending a Sony 610BT for a no frills radio. For a more elaborate set up with rear view camera and navigation option, they say the Pioneer AVH X7700-BT with a flip out screen is the way to go in the Superamerica. The subwoofer in the car is toast, but I didn't run that by the shop yet. Any comments on head units and speakers would be appreciated. I had heard there are two Superamericas in the U.S. in Bianco Avus. Jose's beauty is one. Here are a few photos of another. There could be more, who knows. Sorry to clutter up some of the shots with the blondes. They wouldn't skedaddle until I took a few shots of them with the car. Sheesh, the things we Ferrari owners have to put up with! Jose- That gas should work fine and 91 octane with alcohol will work as well. The ethanol actually increases octane rating, but cuts down on consumption because it only has 2/3 the energy of gasoline. It can degrade some rubber components in the fuel system, but the 575M/SA/612 have less rubber in the fuel system than the 550s and 456s. Our 90-91 octane (RON+MON)/2 is equivalent to about 95 octane RON as used in Europe. Your SA will run on even lower octane fuel, and the knock sensor just dials back on advance, but that also cuts back on hp. As shown above, you have not only higher compression than a 575M, but cam timing is advanced, too. Scott- Thanks for the help, as always. Surprising on the tech data. Pretty easy now that all of it is on MODIS. Surely would be nice to have a few gig dump of what is on that site.
Hi Taz, Thanks for confirming. I try to keep all my hydrocarbon users ethanol free. Some even need a little lead.
Hi Jose, If the blonds can sing then I don't think you need a new radio.... I would probably suggest an alpine 149 bt for simplicity or possibly the pioneer for the navigation ....But First I would be concerned with the speakers amp and subwoofer as the new radio wont make much of a difference in the sound. Scott
Hi 1986Tr, The blondes are in Don's car. His has sand color interior. They probably thought they were at the beach. lol Thanks for the advice on the radio. I expect that once I tackle that, everything will be looked at. Trying to find one with casette player or 8 track.
Hi 575, Thanks. Don's SA is a little lighter (sand vs beige on mine). I am sure the blondes make the color look nicer.
On a related subject, does anybody know the model number of the factory fitted nav/radio fitted to 575's and more importantly how to find PDF instructions. I'm trying from scratch and either i'm quite stupid or its not exactly intuitive ! I am tempted to replace it but quite like the like its unobtrusive looks.
Hi Graham, I believe this is the radio you are talking about... 4372... am fm cass or the 7801 cd/ nav Scott Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
