On the contrary. I believe getting rid of Alonso was the best thing Ferrari has done in a while. I hated the day he came to Ferrari and now many can enjoy the team without him. Vettel is twice the driver Alonso ever could hope to be.

He went from the best to one of the worst in being able to maintain tires with a completely new car, a smart person would be able to deduce that the car wasn't compatible at all with his driving style.

    Believe what you want.

Alonso has come a long way since those days. I think he has matured and will do much better with a mature teammate like Jenson Button. Remember that our new driver was also beaten by a teammate this past season, although Ricardo was in his fourth year and not a rookie, he was new to the team. But this kind of thing has no bearing on how the driver is going to do in the next season. Come to think of it, Button did beat Hamilton a couple years ago as well, and Hamilton has come back like a champ.

I am happy about our driver line up and team. There is excitement in the team which has been missing for a long time. I know there are a lot of changes, but change can be good. We didn't give Alonso a good car and no driver can do anything until they have a good car. So that is what we are going to have to hope for now. If we get a good car, we know Sebastian Vettel can win. We had to watch him do that many times. Now he or Kimi can do it for us. That is the prediction I like.

Alonso still managed to win races and stay close to Hamilton.

Vettel was totally embarrassed by Ricciardo.

I'm a big Vettel fan and don't really like Alonso, but this post is ridiculous.

I don't understand people saying getting rid of Alonso was wrong. If they could have won with Alonso they would have. They couldn't and didn't, hence the change. They came close and was robbed on one occasion of a championship that should have been theirs. It was the time for revolution at the Scuderia.

I like Vettel but he hasn't shown anything after red bulls dominant stretch.

Until he does something, I credit his wins to a far superior car and not driver skill.

One the other hand, I don' like Alonso but I think he is a better driver and has done more with an inferior car.

What about the drivers role in the development of the car? That is a factor.

As previously discussed, Formula 1 has almost always been about who had the better car, and sure, the driver plays a part in that.

How much? I think the mechanics, engineers, designers... create the car and the driver fine tunes it.

If its a crappy car to begin with, the best driver can only do so much with it.

Were Rossberg and Hamilton the 2 best drivers last year? Maybe... but most likely not. They had a superior car.

Sure they may have had something to do with the development but not to a point where I give them too much credit for doing so. Probably 75% of the drivers last year could have won with Mercedes.

    I really hope that vettel proves better than alonso, but I'm sorry, Alonso is the most complete driver out there since schumi left. He has dragged our worthless piece of crap cars over the line where he had no business doing so....... I think Ferrari are taking a big chance, possibly because they want to shift the focus from constructor fault to driver fault when it comes to excuses why we are s%*}

What are you talking about? Hamilton had 1 more second place finish than Alonso and equal points and wins, he obviously decimated him throughout the entire season.

Wow, some people really only see what they choose to see. I bet you're also one of those people that said Hamilton was gonna embarrass Button when he moved to McLaren.

Lol....I think NSXRebel was referring to Vettel

I'm holding judgement on Vettel until I see him this season. He had a few things go wrong last season (not to take anything away from Ricci though). Perhaps it was just a lame-duck season for him and he stopped trying given all the car problems.
