My younger brother works in a storage facility and gets stuff for free which people have forgotten for a long while.
Today he brought a Carl Zeiss Hasselblad Distagon 4/40 lens. I'm wondering how much it's worth? It came in a really nice Hasselblad leather box made in Sweden (the lens is made in "West Germany", so I guess it's not cheap. I figured via Google that it may be a few years old and it's heavy and clunky, but excellent for digital commercial photographs.

    Thanks.

Go to B&H Photo online. They'll buy it, perhaps they're already selling one just like it.

Market for these is pretty slim. Not a lot of guys shooting film anymore, and most of these lenses, unless you've fit a digital back to your big old camera, are falling into disuse.

Bought my kid a very nice Mamiya RB67 with several lenses a couple years ago, and multiple film packs, etc, for about $400. Probably $8 or 9K worth of stuff originally.

B&H is a good place, but KEH.com has a much larger inventory of vintage and hard to find lenses. I don't know much about that lens other than it's worth more than most standard lenses. Good luck and nice ins

That's the older C-series Distagon which takes a 104mm (!) filter. It's huge - the C-series were discontinued in 1981. DriveAfterDark posted a newer series (I think CF, but I haven't paid attention to them in a bit) Distagon which is worth a bit more money - fleabay suggest $700+ at auction currently. Those lenses were incredibly well made professional tools.

I have no idea, but made in west germany suggest it is more than just a few years old. Maybe 25+ years ;) ;)
