Not sweet, more tangy but without being overpowering. Almost like a very fine overlay of another flavor on top of the burger patty.

I'm all in for burgers too, but for tomorrow night. I asked the bride what she wanted me to cook her for V Day and she said hamburgers! I guess regaling her with highlights from this thread did the trick! :)
    Thank you F-chat!!

Drove to Fort Worth to get grass feed ground beef and good maters...T

Tasty looking. Is that a griddle over a gas grill?
Good crust-ification! I'm passing on fries for white truffle mashed potatoes...T

when blending or grinding your burger meat, its important that you lightly form the patty. never pack the burger tightly.

Well done Tom. What a lady. Any sisters, relatives or friends in the 25-35 year old range down in houston? :p

Kidding aside, any lady that suggests burgers for VDAY and doesn't jump down your throat for even asking what to cook is a good lady.

    Yup.

Griddle on the Weber gas grill.

I used to do all my grilling on a charcoal grill, but times change, I have moved on.

Oh a good burger is one of the best things known to man.

My preference for the patty is actually two small patties vs one large one. Topping wise I'm know sure yet.

Some of the best burgers I've had come from Mark's neck of the woods.

    A.J. Bombers - Milwaukee
I think the burgers are good and the atmosphere is great so the burgers become great. Just a fun place to be.

    Cafe Central - Milwaukee
They have this Jalepeno blue cheese burger which just gets me every time.

Five Guys Burger Place - Just love this place even though its a chain. Tow nice patties and a tasty bun with the exact ingredients you want no preset selections.

Webers Burgers - Orillia, ON (Area)
This place is awesome. It is a highway side joint that got so popular they made a little parking lot and built a bridge across the highway so people going southbound can stop and come over safely. It has also got its frozen patties into grocery stores. To this day it only has one location just off the highway.

I've probably had more just recall of the top of my head now.

Ok, wife wanted burgers for Valentine's dinner, so she bought slider buns & I found grass feed beef & tomatoes from a local purveyor. Simple, lightly toasted bun + beef patty (3 mins per side hot griddle) + tomato slice + American Cheese (yeah, I know, but the wife loves the stuff) + salt and pepper. White truffle mashed potatoes (had to get fancy somewhere)...T

Looks good, but good god that's more than a tomato slice!

Way too big, but I'm not the biggest tomato fan.

Yeah, probably. Finding good tomatoes this time of year is tough, so I may have gone overboard. But, man they were tasty maters! Gonna have a good old tomato sandwich for lunch today!...T

Thanks. That's a bit less involved than most chow-chow recipes I've seen. I hate throwing away unripe tomatoes @ end of season, and they're usually too small for frying.

Somewhat related is a good tomatillo sauce - salsa verde - chop up tomatillos, mince garlic, dice Spanish onion, saute with EVOO until translucent, blitz with a stick blender. Great on burgers...T

This thread has been an inspiration. Yesterday whipped up some homemade pickles, they turned out great!!

    2 cups water
    1 1/2 cups picking vinegar
    1/2 cup sugar
    4 TBS salt
    2 tsp Garlic powder
    handful of peppercorns
    teaspoon of mustard powder

Heat ingredients until you dissolve sugar and salt

In a medium bowl, pour over:
about 4 cups of sliced cukes (I bought the long skinny ones that looked like they were for pickling.
1 chopped up red peeper and few mini peppers.

Wait for it to return to room temp then place in the fridge.

Stays fresh about 1 week to 10 days, and they just get better as they continue to pickle in the fridge.

Thanks, SuperDave. Way back when, I was Grandmother's bread-and-butter pickle helper - have been wanting to do something like you just did.

For sweet pickles, just up the sugar to about TWO cups.
