I searched high and low for a good 550 in a colour I liked and eventually decided to go with a 575 F1. in the absence of an affordable manual. First. I now like the F1 transmission a lot. Many critics have not driven one or at least not enough to learn how to get the best out of it. Most new comers to Ferrari look forward to the click-click of stick on gate. but this generally comes with a pretty heavy clutch, which is not much fun in heavy traffic! It is also true, I think, that a lot of younger people struggle a bit with manual transmissions through a lack of formal instruction in technique. I make these points as a 34 year owner of a classic V12, which I love to pieces while acknowledging some of its quirks. Secondly, an earlier owner of my 575 told me that he much preferred it to his current 599 and this has been echoed by others. The 599 obviously has phenomenal performance, but is a bit big for many European roads and several have commented about the frequency of spoiler damage - either scrapes or peppered paint. Wherever your journey takes you, a V12 is an experience never to be missed!
Yes, they already have started ticking upwards, which is unfortunate for those thinking of 2 years to acquire one....
