We will have to get some parking choks until we install a parking brake. I think the brotherhood down south in Australia have some good threads on adding this to a challenge car. Robb Image Unavailable, Please Login
Would be interesting to see what they did I really dont need one with 13-1 compression, she stays put in gear I would love one for my spider as I am adding big brakes to that
F355C looks great. When was the last time it was raced? Not street legal, but did they start it up for you?
The wheels are in great shape although show that race patina. We may look for a white set or at refinishing in the future but the plan is to match the livery in '98. The car ran under Foreign Cars Italia partnered with Ferrari of Atlanta. I've reached out to them and they know the car well. I have a full service and race history for the car. This whole process is like a fun kind of genealogy. The original owner was racing across France in a 250 GTO last year in an article I found. Most will agree that the 355 challenge is a fun car and great for the track. It would do better against z06 and viper's of that era if it had more low range torque. All good for our use - to have fun, preserve the history - and make us better drivers. Robb Image Unavailable, Please Login
Great story, great pics, great reveal!!! Make no apologies for posting this. Awesome read for 99% of us!!! Ignore the other 1%.
Yes. The head mechanic spent around 2 hours with me on the car going over it top to bottom. It has been religiously serviced. Last engine out was in 2010 and only 250 miles ago... It was snowing so we did not take the car out in the area but it started up on the second go. Sounded great with the loud challenge exhaust. We will have to find the quiet one to go with it in the future in case there are lower DB restrictions at some tracks. They started the engine-out service on it today and will be rebuilding the water pump and setting up the car for us with a baseline for the track. Robb Image Unavailable, Please Login
I dig all of the photos and foreplay Rob. The other pics are fantastic. That's got to be the best looking 348 I've seen in a long time. Congratulations and looking forward to reading more about all 3!
Love the write up Robb, IMO the journey is a big part in the whole experience & one of the most exciting! Enjoy
The car has been at DE events with private owners the last 10 years. It spent most of its time at private tracks and acclaimed tracks rented for the day with the owner's other cars. They ran so many paddle F1 cars that they wanted to still experience the old school smaller car with a gated 6 speed. Here Are the logo basics for the '98 from my challenge series book. Let's hope you drive faster than you tell the story. But it was a wonderful slooow reveal. Thanks for sharing the fun trip with us all. Will you keep the yellow stripe when you repaint Pozzi? Obviously I don't know if that's original, but it would be a killer combination.
Here is a small photo of the car in '98 racing taken from a copy of Forza magazine. It is #91. Robb Image Unavailable, Please Login
Bah, low range torque, BS. You have 6 gears set up properly to deliver the power it makes (ie close), get really good at your heel/toe and shifting and you'll never have reason to be in the low range of the rpm band. Plus, that's what makes it fun! If you don't like high rpms and shifting, buy a truck motored viper. It will be slower to a z06 of that era due to it's 25-30hp deficit at similar weight, not it's lack of low end grunt (if driven properly) as you'll never be in the low end of the rpm range. Most dynos of a healthy 355C show 325hp at the wheels, a healthy c5 z06 355hp to the wheels. It's an HP deficit, not a torque deficit. My close to stock 355b was same speed (within 1s per lap) as a c6 z51 with 425hp at the track, and that thing has a mountain more torque. I was not afraid to wring it out, though, and I was shifting more often than the vette. However, that's precisely why I have a 355 and not a vette...It's a lot more fun!
Here is a photo from the front - it is the left car in back. We will be on the hunt for better photos from all angles. It will be a fun journey to get all the pieces together. Robb Image Unavailable, Please Login
It has a good interior. The wheel belongs on a Honda ricer, so that will be first to go on our list that we will take our time to get to. The interior pieces by the way are the stickiest pieces I have ever seen. The pieces in my Berlinetta were amazingly sticky. BUT, the pieces in this challenge car are like fly paper... On the list. That was great footage! Thanks for the link. I think most of that centered around the European series. I did not see any North American locations there. But I will be doing my best to find great photos and updates moving forward from that era. Should be a fun ride. Robb
