Hello, New to the 308 forum as I just received my 85 Flying Mirror back in November. Now on to 308 GTB that Big Tex had for sale. Love the hard top cars. The car arrived on the 8th and was blown out and a light wash. Last weekend, my friend DanielG allowed me the use of his shop and lift to get her clean. Good steam clean and degrease, she is looking so much better. Will start on brakes and engine next week, looks so much better already. My son is off at college so his friend came out to help that still lives here in town, he's never been around cars much but knows Ferrari's are so very special. Nice to have free labor. First set of pictures is from 2-8-15 day of arrival and first day of cleaning to get the dust off etc. Next set is from Friday 13th, prep day. Last clean day. Wine helps for sure. Really excited about this car, great color and will beautiful before summer driving I hope. My son will be back from school by then and he can drive this while I take the testarossa beast. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Cleaning day and the shoes back on. Brakes rusted up on us so had to deal with that as well, oh the joy, but got it in the shop and 3 fans and 2 days later all dried out. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
...wow, what a great project....i'm sure your son will be there urging you on !! Love the colour combination. The blue really suits the 'boxer' scheme. Look forward to seeing it all come together.
GREAT PROJECT FOR YOU GUYS....Im sure Big Tex will be happy that it went to a good home full of Ferrari love...
Thank you all, yes it's very exciting to get moving on the car. I think Alan (BigTex) will be happy with the 308's new home, back in the Pacific Northwest and being restored to somewhat former glory. Chas, thank you as we sent several e mails back and forth on other cars, forgot to let you know I got this one. Love the picture with Mario, it is a blessed car. Only major rust on the bottom was where the battery was located, most likely a common 308 issue. The windshield framework will need some love, but maybe next year. I figure it won't be driven in the rain. GTB's are special that's for sure, didn't realize how much smaller they are compared to the Testarossa, but that's fine, need to loose some weight anyway. Will work on getting it started soon. Need to get the brakes all redone, anybody have a good place to rebuild the calipers and the master brake cylinder? Then new rotors and pads, and then interior out in a couple weeks. Figured out why Alan had some brake issues, right rear E Brake about 50% engaged all the time, so would have been smoking the whole way to Texas. Will figure out why when getting the calipers off. Thinking of trying to get 355 brakes, seems like a good idea now to upgrade the car and then keep the old stuff. Engine to service after that. Thank you all again, it's going to be fun. Brian
Here is a great thread showing caliper re-building: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/308-328/304911-dino-308-rear-caliper-rebuild-thread.html It is pretty easy to do yourself with no real magic to it. Otherwise a great place to get your calipers re-built is PMB Performance: http://www.pmbperformance.com/ Great job getting this GTB back on the road!
Glad to see that this car has gone to a good home and that we all can follow the story and history as it develops. Thank you!!! PDG
PMB Performance in Utah just did my rear calipers. Great work, factory fresh looking gold plate and everything, and very reasonably priced. I sourced the lines from HEL Performance after reading about them here. Another great product at a very reasonable price. PMB - Ferrari Brakes Automotive | Ferrari | 308
Agreed, for 700 with shipping, better than me messing with them and screwing up something. I looked at the rebuild post and then looked and the price and said, they are getting shipped out when I get back.
