Wednesday, 02/18/15 at 10PM ET/PT: The Car Chasers #315 (P) "GO BIG OR GO HOME" Jeff goes after a classic Ferrari Mondial and a muscular Camaro Z-28. But when he learns the Z-28 isn't original color, he hammers the owner on price. And Jeff tells Meg he wants to launch an auto show in Lubbock, including an auction but the cost gives her sticker shock! Listings for "The Car Chasers" on CNBC.
Noooooo! Enough publicity already! Now every whacko flipper is going to be hunting these cars. The same kind of publicity has driven the air-cooled 911 market over the past couple of years and priced many of the cars out of reach of true enthusiasts with modest means. IMO, it would be a shame to see the same thing happen to the Mondials. 2cam
The Mondial 8 through 3.2 are the last affordable Ferraris for the car enthusiast. Low entry level pricing and low maintenance costs. Some other Ferraris are inexpensive to buy (Mondial t, 348 and 400) but they'll cost ya to keep (by comparison).
I missed most of the show, but last night's episode was recapping their success at Auburn, and showed a light blue Ferrari, model not specified, that sold for $42500, I believe. Is this the same episode coming up in Feb??
It's going to be tough to find this and put online - I will try my best boys.... In the meantime set your DVRs.... Wednesday, 02/18/15 at 10PM ET/PT CNBC
Here is the sneak peak for next week...you should be able to watch it online when it comes out. CNBC - Watch Full Episodes | CNBC | Epiosde 315 Sneak Peek
The TR and Mondial might have some mileage or issues with them .... it will be good to see how they were acquired...
The Mondial episode has been around for months. If you miss it, I am sure it will show up again. Regards, Jerry
I see nothing in those cars (great cars btw) that can justify a nearly 70k USD pricetag. But if people pay, why not? All I can say is from where I'm standing and where I live, should there be a Mondial on sale for roughly 60k EUR, even if it's like mine with all books, accessories, low mileage, never restored etc, the guy would be stuck with it for life. At least for now. If a good Mondial is worth north of say 150-200k USD in 20 years' time, then this was a good price to buy, but it's a risky long shot. I wouldn't call it a bubble, but there is clearly some market irrationality. Like nerofer said in other topic and I agree to the fullest extent, you won't get anything for your money nowadays. Maybe that's why people have some money available that they want to invest in a non convencional way. That may account for this inflation in prices. The Mondial (sadly!) isn't worth north of 60k EUR yet, but it is a lot of car for the mere 25-30k USD people ask in the US. Kind regards, Nuno.
I tend to agree with you. However, looking at the Mondial from another point of view, it's a Ferrari, a real Ferrari, and all Ferrari! I've only had mine for a short while, but it puts a huge smile on my face when I drive it. I'd be willing to bet that as the price rises (if it does so), that others might discover just how great a car it is. There's no other way to get and enjoy the Ferrari experience, than to get a Ferrari. And the Mondial provides that experience hugely, and currently, at a huge bargain. I don't want to see these cars go into the investment category. I'd rather see them acquired, fixed up, and enjoyed! Did I mention the huge grin that it puts on my face? Sid
Has anyone got a link at hand that could enable this southern european to watch the show at the expense of a good night's sleep? My cable TV provider does offer some US channels but not CNBC Kind regards and thank you in advance, Nuno.
It's called "Rights management" Same here, not available. Thanks in advance Paul! VIMEO if you can. YT is such a drag lately. It will be pulled down in a second.
OK, just watched the show and not sure if I should be happy or sad... It is a 1985 red cab in the episode w/ 37k miles. Condition of the car is not really discussed and he buys it for $20k and sells it for $22.5k in a package with a TR for $77k after putting new tires on it. A bit queezy to watch as the buyer is "forced" to take the mere Mondial along in the package in order to get the TR. Should be noted that the buyer was also a dealer/wholesaler who planned to flip the cars. But not great that the uninformed could come away with the impression that all Mondials are $20k Ferraris...
And even worse when he tried to buy the Mondial he called it a $15k car, but the seller let him have it for $20k. And he sure bad mouthed all Mondials.
I didn't watch it, and based on your summary, I probably won't. Just another example of how the Mondial is best left for the Enthusiasts. Flippers, "investors" and all others need not apply.
