Here is what my new 328 seats look like. The first photo is how they were constructed, before the padding & leather was fitted, and before the new interior was installed. The large black steel powder coated brackets "jump" over the rear shelf the targa top normally sits on. The new seat sit right on the floor, though they still slide. The seat bottom just mounts between & below the tracks. That's the purpose of the sheet metal at the very bottom; the new leather seat pads attach to the metal in the center with velcro; while the side bolsters are upholstered directly to the narrow wood sides. What covers the "shelf" area the seat brackets jump over is a piece of leather with a thin foam backing; the leather section is attached to the back & bottom with velcro so it can be adjusted. Its purpose is to hide the carpet and keep stuff from dropping thru the seats. The entire seat is only fastened to the sliding rails at the front with a new steel vertical extension bracket & hitch pins, and can be lifted up at the rear, the pins in front acting as hinges. What holds seat & passenger in vertically at the rear of the seats are the seat belts, and gravity. The sliding rails function as they normally do. Of course one could still slide the seats forward to fit the targa panel behind the seats, but then I wouldn't be able to drive the car easily. So far as all the silly decorative plastic covers go, (seat belt reel, pivots, plastic covers on front & side of seats, handbrake) I left them off.

The second photo is of the finished leather seats & interior. Note the change in color of the door panels, console & rear shelf, and of course the new red carpets. No more targa roof storage behind the seats, but now I can fit in the car with the targa top on (I'm 6'-4 1/2" tall). Targa top off, it lives in the garage. I'm now trying to figure out how to make a folding soft top that will fit in the boot (trunk) area. Complicated but worthwhile if I can manage it. When garaged I keep a very lightweight car cover on the car, to keep dust off, and the interior clean.

Perhaps this will inspire someone else... ?

    Cheers,
    Rich

    I bought one of these:

Forza Sport - Corbeau Racing Seats

Corbeau makes a bracket specifit to the 3x8 for the seat, so it should be bolt in. With shipping, the seat, and the bracket, it was `~500 for one side. I wanted FIA approved because I am planning on using the car on track.

I have to say that I am very impressed that the JEG'S seat was so easy to install.

If I love this seat and end up doing more track days, I may go ahead and have a tan cover made for it with stitching that echoes the original seats.

By the way, does anyone have a source for a harness bar that could bolt between the two shoulder belt mounting points on the rear shelf? I'm about to start work on a fabricated piece but I'd rather just buy something off the shelf.
