It's true; but I believe the shelved it for now. Mercedes threaten to leave F1 if they changed the engine regs now. LOL - I don't blame them. Ferrari even suggested going back to V8s which was also shot down.

Looks like 2016/17 seasons will be the soonest any radical changes take place to the engines or cars.

    Best sounding Ferrari F-1 car - 1990 Ferrari 641. loudest V-12 - 1995 412T2 screaming car!

but the all time best sounding car - Ferrari or not - 1970 512S - just love the deep guttoral sound especially when changing gear ...

the V-10's were ok, but they all tended to sound alike. same for the V-8's ... the turbo V-6's from the 80's were all about the same sounding ... and todays cars are just ok.

V12 and V10 are glorious. V8 is decent. V6 is horrible.

The V10 was the best, but add to that the transmissions at the time and the really loud gear changes which is what made it much more visceral. Current gear changes are perfectly smooth and completely unnoticeable.

Yeah. I will never forget being at Indy for the USGP in 2000 (my first in person F1 race) and feeling the gear changes in my chest as the first car came out of the pits. It was Pedro Diniz. Then M. Schumacher drove out and the crowd went wild. Was so bizarre seeing him there right in front of me after watching on TV for so many years.

Get chills thinking about it actually.

YES totally agree. - I was at that race!!!! loved the sounds back then. you could still tell the differences in the engines by the sound. Lamborghini was a bit more baritone, Ferrari all high pitched, renault was a thinner sound and hondas were like a horn
