I'm not sensitive to writings on the internet at all. The internet is what it is. A person even with a remote shred of decency will NEVER threaten another person's life in whatever shape or form. Not even in jest. If you have served in Vietnam, you will understand what I am saying.
lets not waste time on this guy.Either he wants to help or he doesn't. I should not have to lay my pedigree out there to be accepted. The group is lucky to have some new talent brought in. I would like to have a forum topic on "how to do". Everything on timing belts, clutches, dash problems etc. As these cars get older there WILL be more DIY's that are fully capable to work on these cars. What do you guys and the admin think?
In my humble opinion we should waste the time only because I know for a fact he single handedly has turned off some excellent thoughtful contributors. I do agree 100% with your constructive second point! There is a DIY section, but many of the threads are in need of some major housekeeping.
What I meant is a section that just gets to the point about repairing an item. Get the basic thread going and people can add to it. Not just a bunch of talk but real info. The info on the gauge cluster is great, this is the kind of thing I am talking about. If the dyi section can not be cleaned up, start a new one with ground rules, just the facts please.
He's been really nice to me. I've pm'd him a couple of times and he's been great. I like having him around. He has a ton of knowledge. I'm on a college football website quite a bit so I everyone on here is as polite as they can be in my opinion
I have not been on here long. It's nothing to do with being thick skinned. I find him reasonably polite and personable. He always knows the answer to the problem, but wont share it. He just prefers to have fun with you because you don't know the answer.
hi guys new on here and firstly I run automotive business in Australia and done some extensive works on 348 . my experience with timing belts are you cannot tell there use by date and " if in doubt throw them out " is my policy when dealing with possibility of destroying an engine with failing to replace a serviceable few hundred dollar part . Tensioners are also good idea and problem iv seen with tensioners on different cars from experience is that they can run un true which can walk the cambelt toward the end plate of the cam / drive gear , shaving the edges of the timing belt , so I always try and run up an engine with the covers off and have a look at firstly the tension of the belt after installation and how centred the timing belt runs on the pulleys
Before you all go moaning and *****ing about the pro techs on this site, please bear in mind that the reason you guys have access to workshop manuals, wiring diagrams and a plethora of net based info is because WE put it there, not DIY'ers, US To help you guys; And that's why we come here, because of love of the marque and to help. Now, my message inbox is always full of "thank you" messages from those I've helped, but equally, despite having worked on F-cars for twenty years, I and the others here that do this for a living are constantly told by those that think they know better, that we are wrong, lying, trying to make a fast buck in our 'shops...blah blah blah. It's why many techs have either disappeared completely or are not as forthcoming with the information as they used to be.
Mello- He surely knows more about Ferraris than you do, so in that respect is superior, and that is what I meant. Your ego is getting in the way. Like Eddie said, let us not drive off folks who can actually help. Some of the things us amateurs write here must really crack up the pros and can cause real harm if somebody follows our bad advice. If we say something stupid, we should expect to be told it is stupid, just like happens in the real world of whatever it is we do for a living. Brian and Eddie and the other pros have plenty of opportunities to try and save us from ourselves.
Taz, as usual you are a true diplomat and a voice of reason. My apologies to you and Curt for my contributing your involvement in this high-school-girl drama. -ray Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Brian I apologize for my pack mentality pile on responses. They were particularly inflammatory. If I have an a specific issue I shouldn't air a grudge publicly. A public faux pas deserves a public apology. -ray Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
My experience is with a 360 which I owned from day 1 and drove virtually everyday for seven years putting about 70 k miles on her clock. I changed the belts at the factory recommended interval based on mileage. If you don't have many miles on the car, your belts should be replaced using the age or time recommendations. As far as replacing tensioner/bearing, again I think you should follow the factory guidelines. Otherwise, how well do you really know your local mechanic ? Is he smarter at reading a used belt or tensioner than Ferrari techs who designed and created the factory handbook which he learned from?
I have always put up my appreciation for Mr. Crawlls (sorry for spelling errors) contributions but I won't heap on with the backtracking kiss-assing I see. You insult me, I don't say "It's Ok chief, you know more than I do about this". You want to be superior, be superior. Explain what someone said is wrong and why it is wrong. I don't take **** from anyone, not going to start here! My GOD, how many Ferrari wrenches are out there HAPPY to take your money, is he the friggin MESSIAH? Uhhh No?
How old is your car? 10 years old? Of course if you are not driving it then just keep it in the garage under a cover.
Gary- OK, you out-egoed us. Feel better? No ego here, just flew fighters for 20 years. Nobody who does that has an ego.
Whatever you say doesn't excuse him from threatening a person's life with a gun. As to how much I know about Ferraris, it is not for you to say.
