Interesting Read. I love my 97 355. This read makes an addition of a 348 to the stable even more appealing. The Most Hardcore Ferrari Ever Made For The Road
The article should have been subtitled (That You Can Afford). The 348 is it. The GT Competizione model described is the answer to the US Serie Speciale, which is the seminal limited edition Ferrari V-8 model. The 52 or so GTBC's were not the track cars shown. I think the author is getting confused with GTBC's in Challenge/race guise. The GTBC is the pinnacle of 348 design. Wish we got them in the US. Still as great as they were, a well prepped 355 is a superior car, if not a bit softer in nature.
Nope, he outlined the difference between road and race, don't think he's confused. TBH, I'd agree with him for modern cars excepting maybe the F40, though the F40 did have A/C and the 348 GTC didn't... If you go back to the '60's you get more hardcore road legal cars, but beyond that the GTC might be the most hard core street car they made. The 355C would be more hardcore but was not intended to be a street car (nor were any of the LM cars) even if it can relatively easily be made road legal. I'd love a 348 GTC but none were sold here and the ship may have already sailed value wise. While there were a couple for sale in the $50k's a couple of years ago, I don't think you could touch one under $85k now and that's probably gone as well, not to mention what you'd have to spend to get it over here.
No you can't anymore. Passed on one 3 years ago for 70k Euro. One is now for sale in Germany, No 13 D) for 250k Euro. Ferrari 348 GT Competizione NR.13 als Sportwagen/Coupé in Neuwied
Sigh, and another ship sails. Get your 348/355 Challenge now if you can, they're blowing the whistle at the port ready to leave.
Also available. Now is the time, is it? Market seems to get overheated. Ferrari 348 Challenge als Sportwagen/Coupé in Brasschaat
The $15 an hour Jalopnick trolls are invading us looking for stuff to pander to our crowd in their story base 348 then the 355 next day Seriously, how uncouth LOL
Actually no.... the 348 GTC isn't the equivalent of the SS models. Although there are quite a few inaccurate statements made in the article regarding the road version of the GTC (50 off) versus the race version (11 off) he did say the Ferrari 348 GT Competizione, the car that started this whole Stradale/Scuderia/Speciale thing and in this respect he is absolutely correct and that is the best way of describing what a GTC actually is and btw current pricing for the GTC would suggest affordability probably isn't right for subtitling the article either
I yell you just went to C&C took the 348 You 355 only guys would get a reality check if you drove a 348, really digging the car
