Maybe they should take the P1 drivetrain and install it in their F1 car! They could get a Honda badge from the local dealership and glue it on the intake manifolds
That is correct, both the 918 and P1 ran more laps than indicated from Motor Trend's data. The data provided by Motor Trend was from the session where both cars hit their fastest lap times. I think the reason why Motor Trend chose not to release the complete data is because they felt the other data is irrelevant to what they were trying to accomplish that day, that is, to figure out who is the fastest car around Laguna Seca. Another fact that Motor Trend didn't mention explicitly in the article is how many more laps (ie. significantly more) in total the P1 did that day. Believe me, the P1 spend a lot more time out on the track than the 918. The Porsche guys got very bored in the afternoon that day.....
I totally disagree, did you drove the P1 ? actually Ron Dennis and Mclaren delivered amazing cars so far including my P1 imho its the best driver car ive owned, and its nothing like my 12C like some clueless people trying to say. To justify whatever they want or to support one company over another just because they own or fans of Y or X. Hell the P1 GTR feels totally different than a P1 !!! and who ever knew Mr.Ron know how he is a perfectionist and one of few people who communicate with customers and listen to them and their thoughts and he is a true gentleman like many I've met at MTC/MSO. since then I listed myself on every new Mclaren because when you know such enthusiastic people and people who share your passion and not just keen to sell you a car, You feel comfortable dealing with them. I've seen this only with Pagani that's why I'm supporting him because it's not a customer relation anymore and Mr.Ron and the amazing team at MTC/MSO delivered the same atmosphere with an English touch. My renewed relation with Porsche just happened this year after my 918 WP order which I expect soon and will visit the factory to see it so until now my only postive comment is my Porsche dealership because the owner is my friend and one person at the factory that we exchanged many emails since my 918 WP order. Obviously not - the Koenigsegg Agera is also very fast in a straight line but I can't find a single lap time on any course. So how does it handle? Don't know, no data available. Ditto Ferrari.
But my point is that Laferrari has no lap times to give an idea of how it handles - straight line acceleration is not what these hypercars are about, otherwise why not just go the Veyron/Koenigsegg route of having the biggest most powerful engine they can find.
That's not relevant because there are no non Ferrari cars to compare to. We need a neutral track lap time that other cars have access to.
All we have is 2nd hand account that says the LaFerrari was able to put up a better time than either the 918 or p1 at Anglesey in less than ideal conditions on used standard tires. Nothing of the subjective track tests have indicated that the Ferrari lacks in outright performance due to a compromise for it's strong road ability. So while I agree we have yet to see the Ferrari do a real lap time, it seems a little premature to start going the other way with it and even beginning to assume it's only a great engine on some wheels.
Are Ferrari's quoted/stated Fiorano times ever real times for any of their cars? They just seem to conveniently pip the last model and slot into a nice price / year order. I've been having that feeling for at least 20 years.
Red Bull Ring (4318 m) 1:38,95 Driver : Hubert Haupt You can see the time in the video posted on youtube. A well driven 997 GT3 lap in 1:46 (Done a trackdays with friends three years ago and the owner of the GT3 was ex F3 italian driver) Luque Image Unavailable, Please Login
Even more impressive when having watched the two YouTube clips with Hubert Haupt at the helm of the LaFerrari on the Red Bull Ring as the lap time must have been set in traffic. The qualifying laps of GT3 category race cars last year were around the 1:30 mark at the Red Bull Ring, now factoring in traffic that Mr Haupt had...the lap time looks pretty good.
