Is there a copy of the judging standard online? Other marques do this to encourage owners to not map big mistakes ..

You're right Brian. I went back and looked at the copies of the paperwork I have, BTW I have two versions of scoring sheets, and one version has specific things to look for with specific point deductions so there's no question.

Also there is a rules cover page which has it all spelled out.

It looks like the OP's situation was one where the judges didn't know what they were doing. Not uncommon at local events.

    Wow.

That is minimalist to the extreme. The Bugeye standard goes so far as to specify fastener type ant the E-Type list common mistakes the beginners tend to overlook.

But it still looks like I will have to remove the bright blue silicone water lines..

    Thanks Brian!

    .. and how is SXSW?

SXSW? I have no idea. Except going to the airport, for the most part I just stand in the hills and gaze at downtown from the distance. So far as I can tell they have not set fire to it yet.

We do judge a lot of minor and trivial stuff like fasteners and hoses etc but we work hard to avoid situations that prevent use of the car. Consumables like tires, batteries, wiper blades etc only need to be appropriate replacements. 5 points in a 100 point scale also leaves room for a few things that you can do like a Tubi muffler or a set of wheels. You just cant do everything. It was felt from the beginning that it was counterproductive to require a restored trailer queen, that is for Pebble Beach. We are all better off if all the cars are good and being used than a few perfect cars that never come out except on show day.

    Not supposed to

Not all events are judged to IAC/PFA rules. Should be if it's an FCA event though.

Rifledriver, question on the radio.. what of radio delete?

Here's a pic of a radio delete I did for a client, now bear in mind this particular vehicle is not for the show circuit, but the owner and there are many modifications done to suit his needs/wants. I did some digging on the net and found a pic of a 308 with no radio and modeled this after that. I've gotten questions on if it's a factory option, I have no clue on that nor if it would pass judging.

It's not a difficult job, requires removing the lower panel that is riveted on and then fabricating a new face for the vents. This particular build was also stripped down to her naked skin and re-upholstered completely, so that afforded the ability to remove the radio and all wiring completely, per owners request.

It also really helps with air flow, to me it's the more appropriate placement for the vents. my opinion.

The keen eye may notice the window relay mod sitting in speaker box opening. With no radio or speakers it made that a natural spot. Door panels are also devoid of speaker grills.

That is not how the cars were built. They came with speakers, wiring, an antenna and a radio box, the hole covered with a vinyl covered plug and the air outlet mounted below it.

Radio delete meant an empty hole, not a modified dash. All US cars were delivered radio delete. They did that (the plug) since at least the 330's, maybe the 275's.

Even that, without explanation seems a little harsh compared to what really happens. The suggested points deductions for various deficiencies are worst case basis deductions. Again paint is a good example. 5 POINTS MAX. If a car comes on the field with NO PAINT it is 5 points. It would be difficult to justify a 5 point deduction unless it looked like it was in a bomb blast and left in the crater in the jungle for a few years. If you have no tools, no manuals and no spare it is 4 points. Hard to explain why 2 wrong or missing tools get a 2 point deduction. We do use 1/2 points. It is not uncommon to lump together 2 minor issues and deduct 1/2 point for both combined.

Interpretations for much of that is constantly revised and discussed in meetings. Many local chapters and regions just don't stay up to date.

Regarding a clear-bra, if it is not done well (ie almost invisible), is old and yellowed, peeling, etc. it will get a deduction. In my opinion, that is being generous. I can't think of another marque that would allow one at all, without deductions.

It needs to be well installed and in good condition.

Other marques are coming our way, slowly. Many have asked for information, even asked for consulting. They are beginning to understand requiring perfect Barbie dolls treated to a white glove does not in any real world way represent what factories built nor is it compatible with actual use.

A repaint in the original color is fine. My screwdriver handles (yellow-red??)...... I can't remember, but I believe they had Ferrari stamped on the handle part. I can't look very easily because my baby is still tucked away for the winter.

Darn this Chicago weather, it's snowing AGAIN!

Edit: Found a picture on E-bay for this 328 tool kit. Has amber screwdriver handles.

    Neither matters.

If the screw drivers are a reasonable replacement for the originals they are OK.
