F 12 Holding Value?

Looking at the used Speciale market and the the used F12 market the sell point in the used market is about the same at this point. So I am trying to decide whether to get a used F12 instead of a used Speciale. How do you think the F12 will hold its value over the next year

Speciale will hold the price much better than an F12.

 

With the fall of the Euro, it is likely the allocations for NA will increase. This can only hasten the softening of the V12 market which has historically been the case over time. The V12 market is just a thinner one, and small changes in supply and demand are felt in both directions. But as of now, prices for f12s remain pretty strong in the North East US.

Outside of the very limited production cars, the F12 is the top of Ferrari's offerings. In the US, I feel that prices will continue to remain strong certainly in the next year or two. It is a unique berlinetta in more ways then just having the highest output, fastest revving NA V12 ever offered by Ferrari for a production vehicle.

Seems you are mainly concerned about resell or depreciation as most buyers don't confuse the two. Best advice is to buy what moves you - not what you think moves others. Good luck.

 

Speciale is limited series, F12 is not.

Speciale will hold better cause of limited series, F12 IN THE LONG RUN will depreciate.

LONG RUN means 1/2 years.

U plan for more ? Speciale.

 

Actually I've been surprised at how well the F12 has held value vs the 599. The 599 tanked pretty quickly.

If you look at the prices of 16M's, they really have held value vs Scuds. The reason is they just made too many Scuds and only 500 16m's, which are just the same car topless.

I don't think they will make that mistake again or over production with the Speciale. But new F12's are also not easy to get.

 

The 599 didnt tank so much in the first 2 years of production if u remember.

Very few F12s in the US are the reason of the price resisting up there.

ALSO the F12 is a magnificent car, superior to the 599 in ALL aspects, and this cannot go unnoticed by the market.

 

FYI F12 depreciation in the US is mirroring 599 depreciation. 599's took 2 1/2 years to start dropping. As for availability, my dealer told me I can order a car to spec today and have it 6 months from now.

Prices have dropped about 10% over the last 6 mos here in the US, premiums on this model are gone. Nothing unusual. I personally would love to try an F12, agree it seems to be a great car, just can't afford it...

 

I was just with my dealer last week and asked if the number of F12s Ferrari allowed them to order increased in 2015? (I was the first person to get a 2015 F12 from my dealer in August of 2014 for full disclosure)

They received 6 F-12's in 2014 and for 2015 there will be only 4 or 5 allocations they will get. Ferrari is holding back allocations to the US

Good for the US for now.

Arnie, IMHO you're asking the wrong question to the wrong audience. You need an investment advisor, not a bunch of Ferrari tifosi. Very likely the best answer to your question coming from this group is one below, that the Speciale is ltd production, therefore much smaller production, fewer available etc.

But again, IMHO, you're looking at the wrong end of the elephant or, perhaps better said, through the wrong end of the binoculars. Unless you're a dealer, Ferraris are to drive and enjoy, not to buy with a view to resale.

You're asking about two entirely different cars that will give you two dramatically different driving experiences. You want to track, buy a Speciale. You want a car you can enjoy on Sunday drives on normal roads, take your wife or girlfriend away for the weekend, buy an F12 (better yet save a ton of money and buy a 575M Maranello) since for this usage the Speciale is farthest from what you should have in the garage.

You want to do both, buy both cars.

 

Great advice. Except I don't understand where everyone keeps saying the Speciale is limited. Its not. They will make as many as they can. I guess its limited by time. Have a look. Speciale A is limited.

As to holding value, the F12 will depreciate- but I agree- it seems they are doing a better job with keeping the US allocations more stable than with the 599. Also somewhere in the 599 time the world experienced a pretty severe financial crisis.

 

Maybe good for you, but bad for buyers of used ones. BTW, your exterior color is the most beautiful I've seen and the one I will go with whenever I can afford one. Isn't it called Rubino Metalizzcata or something like that?

 

Used cars depreciate. The Speciale less so, but the F12 is headed down. How can it be any other way? Don't buy it and expect to come out ahead. What are you using the car for? Long trips on less than perfect road will be tiring and uncomfortable in the Speciale. The F12 is a better all rounder, but you WILL lose more money on resale.

 

PS I still want an F12 and will get one.

I tried to get a Speciale was on the list but the allocations are limited. I am not trying to make money on the car I am trying to assure that when the 488 Spider comes out I will be able to trade either car in for the 488 Spider without having to add a lot of money to get my next Ferrari. Tried to get 458A but locked out of that. I have only had 430 Spider and my current 458 Spider so I am usually on the bottom of the allocation lists. So I am trying to get the car I want by laying out the least amount of money. I do drive my cars I already have 5600 miles on my 13 Spider. So that is why I want to know which car will hold its value the best when I trade it in. Due to personal issues I have to make the best I can on trade in.

Sound reasons for asking, Arnie. But why not simply hold onto your 13 Spider and trade it? I'm probably missing something

 

I honestly too prefer the F12 over the Speciale, performance and comfort wise.

 

Agree with Seth - keep the '13 458 Spider and then trade when your 488 Spider rolls in - that will be the least financially painful route. A different car in between, especially an F12, is likely to cost you more. And why even get an F12 if that is not a car you plan on keeping and driving for a while?

 

I feel the Speciale will drop once the 488 starts shipping and then will rebound about four years later, like the Scuderia's did. I bought my Scud new in 09 for 315,000 and in 2011 it sold for 190,000 I feel we will see the same on the special vs. 488.

 

I am on the wait list for the 488. I believe strongly in getting the last model of a car. I think the Speciale and Aperta will be significant cars because they will be the last year of the normally aspirated model. Same thing with a F12 and 12 cylinders. Limited production cars are always great to have. I have a Porsche 930 turbo Cab which has tripled in price over the last year.


I would buy the Speciale but I am fund limited right now. I figure I could get 280 for my Spider and would need to add a 100K to buy a used Speciale that led to my question of the value of the 2 cars the Speciale and the F12. IF I can not swing it I will just wait for the 488. I blew it on the Suleramerica last year they were in the 250 range and now they are almost 500. Limited production 12 cylinders are always a must and fun to drive. So that is my logic. Fun to drive and maintain value.

Arnie- I have a 2015 F12 and recently ordered a speciale. There are many things I love about the F12…..but I wouldn't put it at the top of ferrari's "fun to drive" list. See if you can drive one before buying the car (I didn't) and you may see what I mean. If I was using it as a daily driver, I couldn't ask for more. If, like me, you are planning on using the car sparingly….then having a car that is a little more wild- like the speciale may meet your needs better. I think they will both depreciate, but IMHO the depreciation curve for the F12 will be steeper.

 

Thank you for your feedback I appreciate it. My first choice is the Speciale I just have an issue paying 60 to 100,000 over sticker. My wife is ready to shoot me since I have been driving her crazy over this. I just do not feel right trading in my 13 Spider and paying almost 100,000 in addition for a Speciale. I am still thinking about it. There are about 12 to 15 of them for sale so I am hoping the price drops shortly because they are not moving.
