Hi Everyone, I haven't introduced myself yet as I only collected my car a couple of weeks ago, I'll post separately about myself and the car. The car has been running faultlessly, including a trackway at Silverstone, it's truly epic. However, it now won't start. I've checked the battery, it's fully charged giving out over 12 volts. I've also checked all the fuses in the boot and behind the seats. I've uploaded a picture of what happens when I turn the key: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDnLwRIMkE0 The 'check OK' display comes on which would show that it's self diagnostic check is OK. It is showing as being in reverse, which I'm thinking may be an issue. Does anyone have any ideas? I can't believe it's a mechanical issue as it has been running fine over 500 miles in the last 2 weeks. If I do have to take it to a dealer how do I get it onto a trailer? It's in reverse so of course won't move, I hope that one can force it into neutral in some way??? Any help would be hugely appreciated. Thanks, Roland
Hi Everyone, I haven't introduced myself yet as I only picked up my 430 Scuderia a couple of weeks ago. Needless to say its epic. The car has been running great, until after being in the garage for 3 days on a conditioner it wouldn't start. I've checked all the fuses, in the boot and behind both seats, I've also checked the voltage of the battery with a multimeter, both when the car is sitting and when I turn on the ignition, over 12 volts. I know it always seems to be a battery problem but if its got 12.5Vs surely it can't be the problem? I've uploaded a video to youtube to show that dash: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDnLwRIMkE0 The diagnostic 'Check OK' display comes on, it's showing as being in reverse which I thought may be causing an issue? If I can't solve the problem in the garage how do I get into onto a trailer as it's stuck in gear? Even if I got it onto trolly dollies I still can't wheel it up onto a trailer, so surely one can force it into neutral!??! Any help would be hugely appreciated. Thanks Roland Wilkinson
Hi Roland, I noticed on your video that the gear selection on the display is R which means reverse. Are you trying to start the car on a reverse gear?
I did turn the car off in reverse having backed into the garage. I know it's not ideal but I didn't think it would mean the car wouldn't start. I've checked all the compartments are closed, the hand brake is on (although not in the video), the brake is pressed, the battery charger is unplugged etc. I turn the key, the car beeps, won't start and I can't do anything with the paddles to get it out of reverse. All the usual noises are happening, like the whirr when I open the drivers door. The fact the car is beeping at me makes me think it's not as simple as something like the engine cover isn't closed. I'm starting to think the immobiliser might be to blame. I've tried both keys but I will try putting in a new battery. If I can't get it started I don't understand how Ferrari expect me to put the car on a trailer as it's in gear and won't move. Even if I jack it onto trolly dollies I can then winch it onto a trailer. Cheers
have you already changed your clutch once ? since I see you like to drive your car (37K miles) If yes, do you know if your F1 sensor has been changed too?
You might try rocking the car while pulling back on both paddles to engage neutral. Check out post #20 of this thread. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/360-430/233311-official-all-strange-things-my-f1-equipped-ferrari-has-done-me-thread.html
Another method that has worked is to press down very hard on the brake pedal while pulling back both paddles with the key on.
Is your immobilizer not recognizing the key? 1) If the code is recognized, the CODE warning light on the instrument panel goes off within a second, while the EOBD warning light goes off after about four seconds once the ECU diagnostic cycle has been completed. In these conditions, the protection system recognizes the key code and deactivates the engine immobilizer. 2) If the CODE warning light stays on and the EOBD warning light does not go off after the four seconds required by the ECU to run a diagnostic cycle, the code has not been recognised. In this case, it is advisable to turn the key back into position 0 then back to II. If the immobilizer stays on, try with the other keys. If you are still unable to start the engine, do an emergency start (see the chapter “Emergency starting” and contact the Ferrari Service Network. Emergency starting: If the Ferrari CODE fails to disable the engine immobilizer, the CODE warning light comes on fi xed and the EOBD warning light goes off after four seconds and then comes on again immediately, and the engine will not start. In this condition, the engine can only be started with the emergency starting procedure. It is recommended to carefully read through the whole procedure before carrying it out. If you make a mistake, turn the key to position 0 and repeat the operation from step 1. 1) Read the 5-digit electronic code found on the CODE CARD. 2) Turn the ignition key to position II: at this point, the CODE and EOBD warning lights stay on. 3) Push and hold down the accelerator pedal. After approximately 8 seconds, the EOBD warning light will go off. Release the accelerator pedal and get ready to count the number of times the EOBD warning light fl ashes. 4) Wait until the number of fl ashes is equal to the fi rst digit of your CODE CARD, then push and hold down the accelerator pedal until the EOBD warning light goes off after about 4 seconds, then release the accelerator pedal. 5) The EOBD warning light starts fl ashing again. When the number of fl ashes is equal to the second digit of your CODE CARD, push and hold down the accelerator pedal. 6) Proceed in the same manner for the remaining digits in the code on the CODE CARD. 7) When the last digit has been entered, hold the accelerator pedal pushed down. The EOBD warning light comes on for 4 seconds and then goes off; release the accelerator pedal. 8) When the EOBD warning light fl ashes fast (for about 4 seconds) it confi rms that the procedure has been carried out correctly. 9) Proceed with starting the engine by pressing the ENGINE START button on the steering wheel. If the EOBD warning light remains on, turn the key to position 0 and repeat the procedure from step 1. This procedure can be repeated an unlimited number of times. After an emergency start, it is advisable to contact the Ferrari Service Networkas the emergency starting procedure has to be carried out for each starting.
I had the same ones after some time I didn't driven the car. The solution for me was to press the brake pedal harder
Well thank you very much Red27, Rocking the car slightly worked, it popped out of reverse and started as normal, just taken her for a spin up to temperature. I can't thank you enough, I had visions of somehow trailering the car 120 miles to the 'local' dealer and facing an enormous bill. As someone said on another forum, you just bought a car for the best part of £150k and you have to rock it forwards and backward to get it to work. When I was pulling both paddles before it didn't feel like the gearbox was trying to do anything but it popped out immediately. Thanks again.
It's funny the same issue happened to my car 2years ago and I did the same you did by rocking it back and forth.never happened again.
