Last year the Mac's had Merc HP and they were the worst of the bunch. Now, was it the Mac was a lousy car or was Merc punishing them for dumping them and going with Honda? Was McLaren tired of getting second best engines from Mercedes? Hmmmm.....
Everyone else is 'uncompetitive' compared to the Merc, no matter who they're powered by..... If Ferrari suck, or anyone else come to that, it's because their car sucks.....(I'll give Uncle Ron a pass for now as it seems the Honda PU * really* sucks!) Firstly, I don't think he was 'griping', but rather just responded to a loaded question. The difference? IMO, Merc have quite simply built a car that's the class of the field. The Cans did the same for a few years and there's been many, many, other examples over the years. Nature of the game. Cheers, Ian
A loaded question? Maybe the correct answer is "Mercedes is a great supplier of engines for us and we appreciate having an engine that's the class of the field" instead of. "Well, I'm not 100% we are getting the same engines as the other team." There are no loaded questions. There are only Freudian slip answers.
I'm sorry man, but I trust you've got your TFH firmly in place!? It just doesn't work that way (IMESHO). The idea that Merc were somehow 'punishing' them is absurd. Cheers, Ian
Last year at one of the races Williams was a little bit too quick for Mercedes (I think it was Austria) and they had a chance to win it. Merc boys at the Williams team had to ask the big boys at Merc and got a resounding ''no'' as an answer. They where not allowed to use the faster engine mode. And people question if they're given equal engines...
Really? Wasn't that one of the reasons Mac questioned their lack of pace last year -- that Merc wasn't giving them something that could to help Honda?
IMO, and I could be wrong, that was just uncle Ron making excuses for a poor car. Nothing to lose once the Honda 'works' deal was announced. Seems he's jumped from the frying pan into a very big fire right now..... One could argue that they'd (all) be better off if Honda were supplying more than one team like the others. Cheers, Ian
Yeah Phil, Lewis is afraid of you and insisted that MB rein you in. How much difference can packaging and PU cooling effect output?
There is an actual power deficit. Williams are using Petrobras and not Petronas for fuel. Sponsor be damned it's just stupid not to use the same fuel as your engine supplier. Sent from my XT1058 using Tapatalk 2
Massa's bigger gripe from Australia would be that pit stop. It wasn't a bad stop for time --- It's just that it was the *wrong* time. A one stop that early? And then he was stuck behind the Red Bull, because he couldn't push to overtake, when he had to get 38 laps out of one set of primes. Williams was doing better before they brought over the strategist from Ferrari. But those limited life tires are also limiting fighting for position ... on track. Besides: wasn't it the press who were crying "Wolfe"?
Best thing Ferrari ever did was axe that whiner. Then he jumped to "my" team; Williams. Just great. The guy looks like he is on the verge of having a tantrum every interview.
Ouch! I like Phil.... He was a loyal #2 for Michael (#keepfightingmichael). He came damn close to a WDC with the Scuderia. He's vastly experienced. He seems, to me anyway, to be a pretty genuine guy that is at least a part of the Williams 'resurgence'. 'Whining'? All he said was he couldn't be 100% certain that Merc were supplying the same units. He's a driver, maybe they should have asked Pat the same question...... Cheers, Ian
Flipside....is Massa's "diarrhea of the mouth" detuning Williams and his F1 future?? Bottas is faster imho.
Do 'we' know that to be true? I wouldn't be at all surprised if they're really using Petronas juice. And how many HP do you think the gas is worth? (Serious Q BTW - I'm not being facetious. ) Cheers, Ian
Oh wait they hired Kimi.....a guy they paid off and fired. Massa is no more of a whiner than Vettel has been. Amazing the hate for a guy who had zero issues beating Kimi when Kimi 'phoned it in' during his time at Ferrari lol!
I don't think a driver wanting a good car and to be competitive is whining... especially when they're being asked about things. Its not like Seb calls a press conference so he can start pointing fingers. The drivers are asked questions about the things that are obvious and I think often times they're frustrated as competitors and say what they feel. I certainly prefer that to "...Well you know the Sonoco Chevy just didn't have X. But hey we'll be back next week in the Sonoco Chevy and hopefully bring the Sonoco Chevy into the winner's circle..." like they do in NASCAR.
Symonds talked about it before the season start. Considering how big a deal fuel is and how complex engine calibration is, esp with turbo engines, I'm surprised customer teams can use a non-oem fuel at all. Williams hoping to find F1 fuel gains over Mercedes - F1 news - AUTOSPORT.com
Kimi "phoning it in" was faster than Misshap and as an added bonus we didn't have to hear the pissing and moaning when the stars didn't line up.
Not really. Massa handed Kimi his ass in 2008 and 2009 until he was injured. Not really sure what's with all the Massa hate. He is still a quick driver. Alonso was just so good it made him look bad, all you have to do is see what Alonso did to Kimi.
Yeah the hate in here is undeserved, at least not due to this quote. Seems like people are using it as an excuse to light into him to make themselves feel better about some of Ferrari's past seasons
I've found that I can come to these forums and completely abandon any need for trendy chemical amusement. I just project myself into other's hallucinations. 8>)
