Close inspection of mine (which just might be original) shows a couple hairline cracks. The local Advance has them in stock for six bucks, so I'll be back on the road shortly. Glad I had the tank tested, but six bucks is my kind of repair cost!

    Any GT4, 308, 328 348, TR, BB, 512TR

Really they work on any pre 355,456,550 but Daytona/C4/246 and earlier I'd use a 12lb or so cap.

Just punched my ticket. $6 fix is just about the best thing I've done to the car. Yeah it's dirty in there, car has been sitting a while. I'll clean it up this weekend and go for a nice long drive!

My car had a bunch of uneven paint on the tank sealing surface. I scraped/cleaned all that off and carefully resurfaced it and installed a new cap. Seems fine so far...

Wait a minute! I thought these caps were for a Radiator.
You mean we are talking about the cap for the engine compartment
    For the Coolant Reservoir??

Can someone PLEASE confirm? Thank you very much.

Not sure if I need one, but I drove by Advance today and picked one up...just in case. I didn't want to feel left out ;-)

$5.47 on Amazon and free shipping if you have Prime. Ordered one up as mine is original and I have not checked it recently.

Great thread. I'm ordering one on Amazon right now. Not sure if mine is shot but not taking any chances.

If your car is not over heating and it is not blowing coolant out the over flow, what's all the panic about radiator caps for? Looks like a heard mentality to me. Perhaps it's an effect of the long winter.

Mine don't. Leak at all but I'm thinking about buying one and just throw it in the trunk for spare in case I need it.

Did you see the cracks in the pictures? That is a common problem with these OEM caps.

Ever see one fail suddenly sitting in the garage when the car is off and you aren't using it? They fail when you are away from home.

It is probably best you ignore this heard mentality. Go ahead and show everyone here how much smarter you are and save that 7 bucks..

At least 3/4 of the cars that come in that still have the Italian caps fail a simple pressure test.

The new shop in Texas, not one single car so far has passed the test.

    Hardly heard mentality.

Mine looks original, and is doing fine, but I figured I would join the herd (actually because it is a valid concern) so I ordered one. I'll throw the old one in the spare parts box.

Funny; it's all perspective. I was going to make a post earlier today about how this had become "the in thing for 308 owners on Fchat" to do, but saw it as a positive thing.

Perhaps it is an effect of cabin fever from the long winter.

Let's find a cheap, easy thing we can all do to our 308s every year!

Just ordered one on Amazon for $5.94 with tax. I don't see a downside. Better safe than sorry.

I guess today it's easier just to click a mouse than bother to pressure check the cap, or heaven forbid, drive to an auto parts store and have them test it for you. It's only $6 plus a couple hundred for shipping. :)

I a few years I imaging that if you see a car on line that you like you will be able to click and the car will materialize in you garage. :D

    Everyone see that?

Find and pay for one of those testers instead of replacing the cap with a better one for $6-8.

Got any more more money wasting tips?
