Hey Guys/Gals I plan on taking a 4 or 5 thousand mile road trip through the US this summer.I am not worried about the reliability of the car but I am concerned what to do with it when I stop at a Motel for the night.I do these trips yearly in my other cars but this will be my first in my Ferrari.Do you guys have any ideas on what to do with the car to keep it safe at night.I can't always find a hotel with valet parking in the middle of Wyoming or Montana or even Arizona.Do you guys have any thoughts on my situation? The problem is even compounded by it being a convertible.I'm going, I just want to come home with the same car I left in.

That sounds like fun. Get one of those car covers that has a rusty crown Vic painted on it.

Frankly, those areas are probably the safest place you will park the car.

Just park it in a well lit, visible and trafficed area ........... and make sure your insurance is paid up! :)

I've done the road trip in a Cayman S and a Carrera 4S, and yes a Porsche is not a Ferrari, but in some parts, it's the most exotic things ever seen ;)

When setting up your hotel room, ask where to park. Sometimes employee spots are right in front of the reception window. Most of all, trust your gut. Some areas are shadier than others, so choose wisely :)

And good on you! A roadtrip in an Fcar sounds amazing!

    Good advice from above.

You might also want to consider investing in a dash cam. They are inexpensive, can record your adventures or any unfortunate events for insurance reasons, and some are GPS-enabled.

Some models can also be setup to start recording if your car is "disturbed" whilst your away.

    Have fun.

It is like Nospinzone said, these areas are probably the safest areas you can get in. It did such trips with other valuable cars, also with a classic car - no problem at all - if you are always aware!

Hey Guys, Thanks for the tips, I too thought of getting a generic car cover.I feel a little better about going .I am also going to go on one or two legs the Street Rodder Road tour. Its worth a try, heck I can always take a bus home if my car disappears.

I've done it in many times in both my 328 and 430 spider both new from the dealer.

Like " Frips_Girl" said just talk with the desk clerk, they usually tell you to take 2 spots right out front and they will keep an eye on it for you. They like having them right out front figure its good bait to draw other travelers in.

I usually don't take 2 spots though. don't want somebody keying the paint.

Nice to hear you driving your car like it should be! The others have given you some good advice. I have nothing more to add except I hope you have a great time!

I'm planning on driving my F-car to Montreal for F1 this year. I can't wait!

Sounds like a great trip! As others have said, Montana and Wyoming will be some of the safest overnights you'll have. Very friendly and respectful people who love to admire beautiful cars. When coming through MT, PM me for info on some great drives. One word of caution: summer is the only time highway maintenance can be done in the great north, so be sure to check road conditions on state websites before launching. For Montana ...(https://www.mdt.mt.gov/travinfo/construction.shtml)

Should be fine, stick with upper scale branded hotels, you might be better off. Also, search for parking spots around the rear, as for a room where you can see the car. Perhaps book your hotel in advanced, google maps the parking lot? Holiday Inn Express, Hampton Inns, Courtyard Marriotts are everywhere. Can't go wrong with any of those.

Also, 4-5k sounds massively fun in a F430, I wish I would have the balls to do it. My 2006 has only 6k on it total :).

In my younger days I would sleep in it. I probably could not survive it now so I would have to break out a sleeping bag and stay next to it. Use the room for a quick S/S/S and back on the road.

One of the best kept secrets is what great GT cars these are. We have taken three long trips in our 360 spider in the 9 months we've owned it. Love packing suitcases, hanging bags, duffels, a fine tequila or two and anything else you can think of, and hitting the road! Just back from spring training in Phoenix - a blast!
Our longest was a ten day trip up the Pacific Coast Highway. We had stayed at about half the hotels previously so got treated very well. One concern was the Monterey Plaza which has "valet parking only". Didn't like this so called ahead and advised we had an exotic car and would prefer to park it ourselves. Hotel assigned us three spaces in underground valet lot with self park and 24 hour in and out. As I left the first day, I noticed several Bentleys and Porsches squished into to several very small spaces. So sorry for the little people! :)

Anyway, I think you'll be fine the large majority of places. After all, they want your business and should be eager to accommodate.

    Have a great trip.

    Cheers, Andy
