Ok. I have good news, it may have taken 7 1/2 months but I got the car back last week and it's running like a champ. I have to give credit to the guys at Cauley Ferrari who stuck with this and got it going.

After the TCU came in nothing was working and it kept throwing different errors. They suspected there was something not right with the TCU and sent it back to Ferrari for testing and a flash. As Ferrari is now out of stock they sent Ferrari NA the equipment needed to test and reprogram the TCU's, and I was assured that Ferrari is contracting with the OEM to have another batch of computers made.

In the meantime, just to be safe, we decided to replace the F1 wiring harness as nobody had any clue why the TCU fried -- and I mean fried, it actually caught fire inside the case. After finally tracking one down on ebay it was discovered that the engine needed to come out before the wiring harness could go in, so they pulled it and did the belts and water pump while it was out (they were due in a year anyway). Once they had it back together it worked like a charm.

So a recap of what was done:

    F1 Actuator rebuilt
    F1 360 pump conversion
Solenoids in the power unit were replaced with ones from later models and the wiring modified to fit the different ends.
    F1 Wiring Harness replaced
    F1 Tcu replaced
    Belt service done
    Water pump rebuilt
    New hoses all around

It is now running about 25C cooler than it was before the rebuild of the water pump, the rads were pulled and inspected and are in good shape.

The real ***** is, now I have to sell the thing :(

Holy Sholly. A lot going on in that post.

    1. Good news if Ferrari really will release another round of TCU's. Any additional info would be appreciated.

    2. Can we get the final details on what actuators were used?

    3. Have to sell it? Geezus it is near perfect now. Sorry to hear that.

    Happy you got it going.

What was the total bill on all the repairs?

This does seem like the perfect storm F1 disaster scenario. Glad to hear you came out of it, sad to hear you have to sell the car.

In another thread, folks are refuting $25k repairs exist except for engine rebuilds.

Glad you got the beast going again--drive it a bunch before you sell it at least!

Forgot to mention, my issue was a bad accumulator bulb. Uneven pressure doesn't make for complete shifts, so the car kept skipping to neutral.

John, was it the accumulator bulb that kept your car out of commission? I remember reading some posts awhile back where they were having difficulty diagnosing what was going on with your F1, almost to the point where you were thinking about converting to a gated set up.

I also had a problem with the accumulator bulb. The problem was that my pump would prime every 3 sec because the bulb could not hold pressure but all my gears worked fine.If i did not fix the problem it would of burnt out my pump.It was a $400.00 repair for a new bulb.

Mine was the same as Michael's problem. Silly how critical that bulb is-- the pump fills it and then the system runs off the bulb. NOT the pump directly, as I previously thought.

The guy who figured it out simply mapped the pressure tracings, and made the diagnosis in a couple of days. Part ordered, adapter too, and it's running like it is supposed to now.

I feel silly for being so patient with the first mechanic.

That is great to hear for the both of you. Even though you weren't able to drive it for awhile, at least the other mechanic figured it out and the part was super expensive.:)
