Nonsense. That TR would have been accepted at either venues, specially today. Besides, a commission is a commission.

Based on recent sales it seems like a well sorted TR within the 10-20k mile range that has service records and is in great shape would bring $150K

And I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you darn kids. LOL. Where, exactly, did I say that RM didn't sell Testarossas? Although in the past 2 years, as they've been inundated with submissions, the "standard" they use has shifted substantially, I never claimed RM wasn't a TR selling organization. I merely pointed out that, in the current market, a dealer selling a 9k mile TR needing the drivers' seat dyed, without having something of substantially higher dollar value to package it with would not be getting that car into Amelia, Monterrey, or Scottsdale.

But you caught me, my plot to mislead the FChat community was foiled by an internet supersleuth with amazing Google-Fu. Because, y'know, I couldn't possibly be someone who had actually dealt with the organization for years and knew the ins and outs of how they accept cars into their auctions. I couldn't dream of having submitted literally dozens of cars to them for various auctions and been given answers that explained how their vehicle acceptance strategy worked often enough that I could have a very good feel for what will and will not get accepted to a given auction. Nope, *I* must be shooting my mouth...errr...keyboard off instead.

It actually was a November 1987 build date, single spline hub and the price does not reflect the buyers premium

Still makes it an 88. Actually, up to 88.5 with the single spline. My build date is November 86 but it's an MY 87

So my Nov 88 build can be listed as a 1989 MY car? Interesting. Thanks.

It depends on the country. Some are strictly build dates, others are date of first registration. I don't exactly know how the US did it with these cars but I am not surprised that a Nov. 87 build date = 88 model.

In regard todays MY designation, they can be over 6 months in advance. It's a package with alternative features, configurations they are marketing to distinguish it from a predecessor.

The VIN has a letter that corresponds to the Model Year, per Ferrari. It's the 10th digit/letter of the VIN that tells the model year, or you can just run it through the Red Headed vin Decoder: Red Headed - VIN Decoder

Another Swiss Testarossa came up at Silverstone auctions today.

LHD, 27,000 miles - and made about £88,000 GBP all in - or $132,000 US.

Looks nice in the pics - but had it`s lower sections colour coded.

    Had a red dash too:

Some of those rear pics could be straight off Need for Speed!

It was only a few months ago that nice LHD Testarossa`s with just 10,000 miles or less were sitting unsold in the UK at £70,000....

Thanks Dom. I am thining from memory that this car would have made 50-55k on a good day at auction this time last year. Not inconceivable that it would have made not much more than 44k, ie half of today's price. What do you think?

Granted this car needed a major service since last belt service was 2002.

Belt service + 10% commish, that gets you in the ballpark of current pricing. Man have they moved recently.

Honestly I really don't see the Testarossa moving at a very fast rate. When I see an 89 Porsche 911 turbo selling for 100k and Diablo VT Roadsters selling for 500k, the TR's upward tick seems slow.
...and I really don't understand it. It's the last of the mid 12's, manual and it's the last non computerized super cars. This car should be in lock step with the Countach. Maybe it still has a lot of upside to come.

Yeah to break £50k GBP at auction first half of last year you needed RHD and / or low miles.

A RHD 86 with 50k miles was advertised a couple of weeks ago at £92K GBP and was listed as sold within a week. The same car was sold at auction early last year for just over 40k.

It' was bound to happen eventually - for a start there's no other classic mid engine 12 cyl car you can buy under 250k anymore - and on top of that it's a Testarossa!

I think there is still $50k TR's to be had. I know of two here in LA and another one in Norcal. Yes they are rough and need work but in short time, they will be snatched up and flipped. The stock market goes up 500 then down 500, what better place to put your money than a nice 12 cylinder Fcar? Another Fchatter here and I did the oil and coolant yesterday at his shop. An older Italian guy came up and said, "Best Ferrari ever made! This is the car that made Ferari a household name!"

Yeah I know some ppl just don't get it about the Testarossa. Like the Countach for 20 years or so it was just an out of date old supercar - slow compared to the modern stuff and too modern to be a classic.

They're moving now but as Shamile says they're not going nuts yet in the US.

In Europe and the UK though things are happening much quicker, so I guess it's only a matter of time before it takes off in the US.

A lot of people find it hard to understand but to a lot of the current car buying generation in our minds the the Testarossa and Countach always were - and always will be the two ultimate supercars on the planet.

It doesn't have to make sense to anyone else - and by the time the rest of the collector car people understand, it will probably be too late....

A lot of people seem to be buying cars that they were never even interested in or had never even heard of 10 years ago when they were worthless - but with the Countach and Testarossa even when they were rock bottom they were still a lot of people's ultimate cars.

Even If the market ever crashed you're still left with your dream cars :) - probably the 2 most iconic cars ever made!
