But when you use the kill switch, don't you lose all the ECU stuff(or is that only in the later cars)? I remember troubleshooting the seat belts with my mechanic, and we had to use the kill switch a lot. When it's all said and done, he told me to let the car idle for about 10 minutes so it can relearn(not his exact words, but gist of it).

+1 and if you are going to drive the car in 2-3 weeks you dont need to hit the kill switch IMO....IF the battery is in good condition.

Kill switch is good to idle the battery for around 3 months, so put a trickle on is a good idea if it is not driven regularly. I put trackle on mine... no harm ..

That was probably me but I said polarizing which to me means you either love it or hate it; no grey area. Personally, I think the TR and M styling, especially the M front, looks like a desperate attempt to modernize, conform and appease. It's too much of a departure from what the Testarossa encompassed, that is, consistent and deliberate design lines throughout. I see continuity from all vantage points such as the grill through the side strakes and all the way to the rear slats. The lines are sharp, straight and horizontal and all tied together with one big flowing wavelike profile. Even the seats share similar "edgy" yet free flowing design cues. The Testarossa has it all. Just perfect.

Now from a collectibility, performance and "legendary" standpoint, the M ticks all boxes.

Hi Darius, have read pretty much all your posts, starting from the first TR you bought at the auction ! This is a fantastic car, many congrats ! Am now in the same condition as yours, have bought my 512 TR in early September in Italy (I live in the Docklands) and... car is still there. I think I have bought on the net every piece of literature about it, probably books and magazines will take more space in the car park than the 512 itself ! Can I pick your brain ??? Is Ferrari Centre the good starting point for importing the car ??? They look good and are the obvious 'entry point' if you arrive to Dover. And lastly, do you have to leave the car with them throughout the importation period or you can actually drive the car after MOT is done and before the UK paper arrives ??? (am asking this as it looks like you have a Spanish reg Nr and you are parked in London). Apologies for asking all those questions, feel free to PM me, if you prefer. And again many congrats, car look is impeccable. We can have a coffee too somewhere in the not too distant future, if you pass by City or Canary Wharf or can meet one day with our red ones, probably even better. Will send a report for everyone to read upon arrival of my car, got only a little bit to wait for (feel like being in jail !). Grazie mille ! Lucio

Hi Lucio..I will reply here in the forum in the first instance in case this info is useful to anyone else. Firstly I am not an expert at importing second hand cars to the UK, I have imported just four over the years. Small print over. From Italy you have a complicated situation with regard to registration, export documentation for your fiscal authorities. The EU is still not joined up about this. If you are comfortable with leaving your Italian plates on the car, you can drive it back to the UK. Or like me you can get it trucked back (I can give you some contacts for this). You then need to get an MOT, for which you need a mph speedometer (and to flatten the light beams) - you can do this immediately. (Tip: a friendly garage can then put your original speedometer back again immediately so the odometer is true). Then you need to do the UK registration process (sending off the paperwork) which takes 2-3 weeks. If you have your normal Italian plates nothing to stop you driving in the UK, except DVLA advice which says that you can only do this on a purchased car to and from the MOT station and storage. Not sure how many people stick to that (may have insurance implications). If you have proper export plates, much easier, but hard to get in Italy I believe.
There may be other ways...that's all I know.
The Ferrari Centre are excellent. They did UK changes and MOT, paperwork, general check of car and entire registration process for £1500. You could do a lot of this yourself but if you live in Canary Wharf you probably like me think time is money!
Easiest way: get truck to pick up car, take direct to TFC, they will do all the above and hold onto car til papers through, they make plates, attach, you arrive and blast back home.
Now my car is in storage til UK plates arrive in a couple of weeks.
    Would be great to meet.

Darius wrote " Easiest way: get truck to pick up car, take direct to TFC, "

Lucito: be very careful getting anything on a truck and then (try to) drive that through Switserland !

Getting IN is n0t a problem at all but on your way out they may confiscate truck + Ferrari because you are then trying to export goods out of Switserland ...

It has happened allready a few times now .... cost them a fortune for exports licensees and fines ...

Make sure your transporter is aware of this or you may regret this ...

Just good to know I think ...... :)

Good luck and please keep us posted with LOTS of foto's !

you may go over austria or over france, then you don´t get the "swiss-problems".
but when the car still is registered in italy you also have no problems going by switzerland. but also the transportation company knows exactly what and how to do.

Cheers guys, have transited (every time with the car on trailer) many times through Switzerland from Italy to UK and vice-versa and never had a serious problem. Fingers crossed they won't start now with the TR (which will be on trailer too, BTW).
But thanks a lot for your tips on the issue ! Will keep you posted anyway once the trip is over.
    Ciao.

If you use a good transport company they will know the ropes. Let me know if you need a contact. I have been told that extra insurance is required for transporting from Italy because of hijackings there in recent years. Open trailers have their hazards also..My 512M was stopped in France en route to Calais and searched for drugs! Fortunately they just looked around, didn't take it apart. Now that would be a clever way to smuggle drugs - just buy a really inconspicuous 1990s supercar and stick them in there. Mm! Maybe a double bluff, but they would need to be very valuable drugs, and these cars are not known for their storage space. Suspect gendarmes just wanted a look around the car..

as long as a car is registered somewhere in europe it is never a problem to bring this car in and out of switzerland. I live direct at the border to switzerland and I often do this with cars from italy. no problem if still registered and proof of insurance, even you carry it on a trailer.
if you need any help let me know

You are right Sam , the front was really try to be modernized because the trend was changing the flipping headlight to the M look in 90s extended to 2000s e.g. F40, F50 , Diablo etc. Again it is very very personal ; for example , I personally am looking for a Diablo >= to the year of 1999 just to get the "glass-top" type of headlight ..... cheers ...
