Anybody found a good iphone mount that works well in our cars? I use my iphone for GPS (Navigon) as well as other applications so I'd like something that will hold it in clear view up around eye level. I'd also like to run it to the radio but my radio has not aux input so that's not happening anyway...

I just use a suction cup thing on the windscreen for my smartphone (sat nav). It doesn't interfere with visibility at all because its pretty much in line with where the wipers park. I don't like having the Sat Nav down low because the time it takes to look down & for your eyes to focus on it is too long. It needs to be where you can just glance across at it.

I did mount an auxilliary power socket for it below the centre console so that I don't have to have a wire running back to the cigar lighter. It gets its power from the cigar lighter circuit & I put a small relay in the circuit so that its only live when the ignition is on.

For the Ipod connection, the (fairly low end) Alpine head unit i have has iPod connectivity and came with a cable for same. I don't use it (because I don't own an iPod!) but the same head unit also takes USB sticks & so I have a couple of 4GB sticks that live in the car

I had a similar issue and replaced the the radio with a new one - oxygen audio o-car. It's basically just a cradle with a volume knob. The iPhone slots in and then controls the radio tuner as well as playing any iPhone audio. Also has Bluetooth and a mic for hand free but I doubt anyone could her me well over the engine. And of corse it charges the phone.

It's not perfect - getting the phone in the cradle is a little awkward and the unit is so deep set on the 308 that I can't rotate it to vertical, the phone stays horizontal. The radio tuning app is really slow while tuning manually, scanning is fine and presets are fine. If you only listen really to one local radio station, it's also nice that it will play the last station even when the phone is not in the cradle.

I did not want a separate cradle or extra aux cables in the car so it's worked well for me even with the quirks, might be good for you as well.

Edit - this obviously places the phone lower than eye level so if that's a major factor, it won't work for you.

My phone fits perfectly side on in the empty ash tray. Take out the ash flicker gizmo - and Wala - a perfect little I phone holder. Yes it is side on but u sure can see a call comming in and it is exactly the right size. However it certainly will not work as nav aid.

I keep phone off when driving anyway - so it is a holder for me.

    Perfect.

It replaced the existing head unit. They also make a dock coming out soon that charges and can output to an existing head unit. I didn't want any more cables or docks in the car than necessary so I went for the head unit model.

I don't have any photos of it in my car right now, but here's the head unit model and upcoming dock.

That looks interesting, primarily as it appears to allow easy and full use of the radio without the iphone docked. It doesn't say if the dock can be rotated to horizontal if that's important.

One thing to find out on this is how far out the dock extends - the 308 at least has a pretty significant "shelf" that extends out over the radio opening.

I should say regarding the oxygen unit that the dock can be rotated to vertical, but barely - the back of the dock presses against the vinyl of the dash above the radio. I avoid it as I don't want to cause wear over time. If the radio were to be installed without recessing it all the way into the opening, perhaps witha custom sleeve, it could be rotated freely. Might look odd though.

iPhone dock II for Ferrari is done! Will work with ANY Ferrari with an iPod cord in glove box. Also noting comes with the proper cords to make your cord work with you iPhone OR ANY Ferrari with a Ferrari ash tray or Ferrari cup holder.
NO drilling no changing head unit.

You can get the plastic only or the whole kit.

I dont want to change my head unit and the data it puts out to the car. Because there is no drilling you can simply remove it if desired and its like it was never there. Cant do that when you muck around with a new head unit.

Its a strange thread agreed.. Point of this is unless you enjoy drilling holes in your car or you like replacing your head unit in your car for the most part you cant get Sat radio or a decent turn by turn Nav in allot of Ferrari cars. Well now you can. really you would put a $100 head unit in a 200K 599? Google search iPhone Mount Ferrari see how many options you come up with.

Ram Mount x-Grip - they are the best. You can figure out multiple mounting options. You are not constrained to the current make/model of phone. I have a twist/lock suction cup mount for my cars and move the arm to my Ducati with a ball mount on just below the instrument cluster.
