That is actually a fact. The only thing that is in debate are his intentions in making a statement like that.
Never said it was, but it has to be current and relevant with modern technology. F1's job is not to be another class of historic racing. F1 has always been about pushing technology and has to remain that way IMO.Pete ps: Oh and the fans are still helping CVC make a fortune, so there is nothing wrong with F1 as far as making profits are concerned: How CVC Has Made $8.2 Billion From Formula One Auto Racing - Forbes
Not Bernie's most clever remarks. That reminds me of a F3 team that got disqualified years ago for airbox infridgement. The manager appealed against de decision of the stewarts on the ground that "Air is the only thing I can get free here. Why should it be restricted!" The appeal was rejected...
Agree with most of what you say, but F1 is seating between 2 chairs there! On one hand, it want to be relevant by allowing SOME modern technology like ERS and hybrid power and IMPOSING most of the parameters to achieve it, but in the other hand, it lives in the past by BANNING cover wheels and enclosed cockpit. So, the PINACLE of motor racing for technically minded folks has now shifted towards the WEC that is at the forefront of innovation. No wonder why the French don't need a GP when they have Le Mans !!
Woah woah woah. Cockpits and closed wheels are a terrible idea. There is a reason that open wheel racing is so exciting. There is no margin for error. No one is putting a gun to these guy's heads to make them race. They are handsomely rewarded.
Don't assume this simply because there is a vocal group saying so. Vocal majority? Vocal minority? I don't know and I doubt if you do, either. Instead of grease, this squeaky wheel wants to set fire to the wagon. I've been watching F1 since the 70s when it was occasionally shown on ABC's Wide World of Sports. There have been great years and there have been not so great years. My personal opinion is that we are coming out of some not so great years and are heading for some great ones. I agree that SOME fans don't want this formula. Please don't speak for me, though...because you are wrong. Am I in the majority? ...the minority? I don't know. I DO know that far too many times in history a small, but vocal minority became an assumed majority...only to be proven otherwise when tested. As a society we have shown time and time again just how easy it is to b**ch, moan, whine, and complain. It's a real stretch to put any meaning into it.
F1 cost cutting: Not putting money where the mouth is | Formula 1 | F1 Blogs | ESPN F1 - Interesting read on all the issues aligned with cost and equalism...
I wonder how the cost compares to driven tunnel testing. Ganassi has one such tunnel in PA. Instead of blowing wind and measuring, you drive the car down the tunnel and record the environmental changes as it passes. I assume this is lower cost, but potentially more dangerous for the test drivers.
Oh, I dunno, look what it has done for nascar..... (sic) Kinda like Schumacher/Brawn, Team Williams (Mansell-Hill-Villeneuve) and Patrick Head, Piquet/Murray, Schumacher/Briatore, etc. Are you totally forgetting there are more than three teams in F1? And if you say 'if you can't afford to race with the big boys then you should not be racing' then you are a fool because that will eliminate 5 or 6 teams right off the bat, like they have much of a chance now, they would have even less of a chance with an unlimited development budget.
I believe it currently is mainly the engine suppliers that are doing all the development, and yes it is unlimited (er, maybe not Renault) as they will be testing the cr@p out of ideas before they submit their valuable modification token. So unlimited development budget is already here and no change to lower teams, except I guess for testing. Simple solution is to disperse some of the rediculously profits that CVC make, ie. there is plenty of money for the taking in F1, it is just going to the wrong place. Pete
Sure. But there are always things discovered when the rubber meets the road. Also, is it fair that Ferrari should not be allowed to use their own wind tunnel? Seems a bit unfair to me since they already have the investment.
Horner needs to shut his ass about mercedes. He's gonna dig a hole he can't crawl out of. Next thing you know he raises all sorts of questions about mercedes development and nothing illegal is found. But in tye end it's discovered red Bull was cheating.
Collectively over the past 5-7 years the F1 teams have spent a Billion on wind tunnel testing And all we see as fans are ugly appendages sticking out of the bodywork Scre** That
I second that! F1 cars are uglier than ever with all these wings, vanes, spoilers, sidepods and winglets all over the place. It looks like origami.
