I bought my car in Switzerland without Swiss VAT on the selling-price and paid Dutch VAT on the selling price (without Swiss VAT). So in the end I paid 13% VAT in Holland in stead of 21%.
Thanks!! It is indeed Grigio Ingrid and a stunning appearance. It's a color you wouldn't probably look for when you heard of it, or seen it on pictures. But in real life: Wow!!. I hear that from all of my friends and fellow F-drivers. In cloudy weather it looks a kind of silver grey and in full sunshine it changes to a kind of champagne color. I especially like the combo with the interior. The first owner really had taste in my opinion: Beige leather, black carpets, carbon interior, aluminum brake calipers, modular rims, Scuderia shields and "Testa di Moro" stitching. She's equipped with the FHP. Also original High Power Hifi with subwoofer and satellite navigation. Navigation is useless but it makes the feeling complete. I spent a whole year looking for the right 550. Grigio Ingrid was the only color I would accept. Finally found one with the full carbon package, quilted shelf and headliner, shields Its Grigio Ingrid with Sabia, black carpets and trim and piping. It gets a lot of compliments both from the public and other Ferrari owners.
Thoughts are two of a kind! Seems you've found your "one of a kind". After missing a 575 Grigio Nuvolari (also beautiful color) I went looking for a Grigio Ingrid and found it in Switzerland. Wanted something else than TdF . Great adventure getting her to Holland. Wonderful experience and great memories.
I can assure you that from Italy, Germany and France you don't have to pay anything bought my least 3 Ferraris on the continent and brought all of them back to the UK, no fuss...bear the CoC.
13% as in 21% Dutch VAT paid less 8% of Swiss VAT avoided? Sounds like man maths. Some convenient numbers to illustrate... -A car owned by a Swiss company is offered at 108 in the local market. -A Dutch buyer turns up and offers 100 net (i.e. excluding Swiss VAT at 8%). -The Swiss company is happy as 100 net is all that it would ever see if it sold to a local buyer once the VAT has been handed over the the State. -The Dutch importer would be liable for 21% Dutch VAT on the export price e.g. 121 in total. -The 'upside' for the Dutch importer was that he sees a 'discount of 8 and only has to pay Dutch VAT on 100, but the liability was still 21% of something... -He could say that his total upside was 9.68 (being 121% of the 8k 'discount' that he secured as he was lucky enough to find a car owned by a corporate vendor as opposed to a private individual) but he cannot avoid the reality that he had to pay 21% Dutch VAT at the point of import. In my experience, such opportunities are rare as the vast majority of exotic cars out here would appear to be owned by private persons (and not VAT registered companies, even if they are offered for sale at dealers). However, its a nice windfall if you can find an export prospect that is company-owned and the vendor doesn't expect you to split the difference with him!
Was your HGTC under 10 years old? I recall reading that the rules change when you are talking about the UK import of an EU produced car that is >10yrs old and no CoC is required.
CoC correct for under 10Yrs old...and yes my HGTC is an early 2005...so when imported last year I needed a CoC
So all but the youngest Maranellos (mainly SAs) are now over 10 yrs old (my 10th birthday is coming up next month!) so chasing Ferrari for a CoC is not going to be an issue for the majority of UK-based Maranello importers..
I dont think anyone is questioning Italy Germany and France, Any country under the EU makes for easy buying. We are talking about Switzerland - do you have any experience? Thank you all for you answers, - MogulBoy in particular, lots of useful information. Seems like CH is becoming a possibilty Thanks again
I didn't bother with CH as I couldn't get a clear 100% secure answer??? The didn't get any answers from any first hand people (UK or EU based buyers like us) who had actually done it. I do however understand that it might be a lot easier for actual Swiss owners to export their own car to the UK, i.e. Them relocating and having owned the car and lived in the CH for at least 6 months prior to exporting. The last time I checked CH was for the Scud a couple months/weeks ago. Things may have changed since.
