Definitely a great looking car. I need to get mine out of hibernation now that the weather is getting better.
Interesting stats...quite a few S but not too many on the market...people must be holding onto them... I heard someone say the S somehow seems less fierce than the original, why would that be?
Just took delivery of my 05 Vanquish S. The tranny is no where near as jerky or difficult to drive as top gear made it out to be. When I first purchased the car I truly thought I'd do the 6 speed swap, but I'm happy to report that after a couple of miles I've decided against it. Truly a charismatic car to drive. Congrats on a great purchase and welcome to the fold. You picked a great color and your comments are exactly what I've been telling people for years. Most people have never driven the car and keep talking about a "needed" manual swap or gearbox issues that they know nothing about first hand. I just drove mine the other day and after being jaded by diriving several high performance cars over the years I still said "wow" after parking and getting out of a 10 year car - so your characterization of "charismatic" is as the Brits say Spot-on when you look at the classic lines and still relevant diriving experience.
Ya, The window sticker calls it shadow blue though, it claims it's an out of range color. Is there anyway to find out how many of a certain color they made, did Aston keep these records?
congrat! I was following that car for sale for some time. I was amazed not to see it snapped earlier. That blue is beautiful. You got to tell us about the purchase as someone I know could not get info he asked for from the seller and he then went for another S. May be because you were already at the end of the deal. Also interested to know who owned it as first owner. Seemed a VIP of sorts. Hope to see you around as we are a bunch of new S and non S owners around CT and NY. We are trying to setup a meet. I believe some us us will go to the Greenwich show.
Go to the AMOC forum (amoc.org) to the NP Vanquish sub forum. The moderator has copies of spec sheets and can give you details on production numbers. Additionally you can contact Aston Martin directly (where he got the info) and they have a Heritage rep who can give you all the details of your car(s) from production achieve records. AML surprisingly kept very detailed records at the old factory to include Qualty Control check sheets from each car during production and shipping.
@6speed I just checked the colour sheets - shadow blue is an official Vanquish colour from the VW TOUAREG. This should be very (very very) rare. Sent from my spaceship via Tapatalk.
Could be, the deal took some time to finalize. Was a little tricky as I was trading in my Ferrari 328, and because of the distance between myself and the dealer it took some working-out.
Looks great in Shadow Blue, congrats! I've been casually following the market and saw this one on sale for a long time even though it seemed to be priced right. My favorite modern Aston...one day.... Interesting trade of a 328...I have a 308 GTB QV but that's staying in the stable, a Vanquish would be a nice contrast to the 308
Question for those of you who have owned or driven both model's, Vanquish V12 vs Vanquish S, besides the technical differences what are the differences in terms of driving experience, sound, feel etc?
I've had my Non-S only a few month, but for me the steering response in my 06 S is much better. You also feel stiffer springs and better brakes. There are a few further differences, but these are the main ones I'd say. The sound seems to be equal to me, but some guys told me the Non-S had a slightly better sound, I can't confirm. @6Speed 430 : congratulations and welcome to the Vanquish family ! Your car looks STUNNING. I noticed it when it was advertised for sale, really incredible color combo. You made the right choice The Vanquish S is just incredible, took her for a drive yesterday and I can't get bored of the glorious V12 sound, it turns head everywhere. And what a design... unique ! @FUNRARI : Concerning the comparison Vanquish vs Vanquish S, I have to say that the S felt better in every way : better brakes, stiffer and more precise chassis, better steering response, even more impressive engine sound, better acceleration, better cornering and with the S clutch... better gearbox overall ! If you get a 2006 Vanquish S (2007 model-year available but not for the US) you get the new dashboard. Plus, the S is much rarer than the non-S (1086 "S" built / 1492 non-S). @Vanquish80 : Dear Björn, I test drove both (also in tunnels...) and I assure you the S sounds better, that's for sure.
I totally disagree. The difference although noticeable; the typical driver in town will only slightly or cannot tell a difference. You have to go open roads to notice the advantages and feel. I do not believe there is any difference in Chassis (could be wrong) and the engine does not sound different at all. That all said I have a 04 SDP car that has all the S upgrades (breaks, steering, sport seats - minus S engine)
I have driven both by now. I will say that a well sorted well tuned non S is as good as an S. For most road drive situation and real world (non track) the differences even on power are not making a significant difference. IMO it s all academic. The question is more about future investement and personal preferences. That said it is more work to find a good sorted non S that an S that had the knows issues already sorted but IMO in terms of value for driving today an up to date non S is a very good deal.
The chassis of course remains the same but the suspension is stiffer and lowered on the S. About the engine sound, when I tested a non-S, it didn't seem as loud as the S, even if the difference was not that huge. Just My 2 Cents. Nice car you have a Sport Dynamic Pack
I agree on that a S will always be worth more than a non-S, like 512TR is worth more than a Testarossa, but disagree about finding a sorted car. There are not many Vanqs out there and for the most part they were not molested and have little to go wrong with them that could be expected from cars with fewer than 20k miles other than misfires. My car is now at 21k miles and is a fine example and I see several earlier cars with half the miles. Image Unavailable, Please Login
