or so it would seem. Whats next Mondial?
Yes, I sold my 328 a year ago for more than I paid my 355 Ch. Having said this, I think certain 355s have also gone up. I've been offered to sell my 355 Ch for more $ than I sold my 328. Selling my 355 would take significantly more $. Besides thinking that it's more car than non-Michelotto 3x8s, I simply enjoy my 355 more than than any of my past 3x8s.
What's next to rise? It isn't hard to figure out. Prices have been broadly rising the older stuff is. TR's and 3x8 have done great the past year because 70's cars did great the years before. 90's cars are next. So the 348/355. I don't expect dramatic price rises but if there is a F car SERIES (not limited production car) that is going to follow that trend that it is 348/355.
I was planning on getting a 308 for my next Fcar but when prices rose to the levels that they are at now I started looking at 348's and 355' as prices, for some anyways, seem to be in the same ballpark.
I have really wanted a 355 for along time, but Service cost / replacement cost keep me out of the market. as for prices I think the 355 / 348 are suffering from 308 & Dino syndrome - people are buying them that cant afford the mtns. and we are getting alot of cars that require 5 digit service cost... that keeps people out of the market. they are spectacular cars, and as for Historical reasons the 355 is the first Montezemolo car and now that he is gone they will have a historical precedent and prices will rise for them - give it about 5- 10 years. If i hit the lottery tomorrow a red / black 355 is the first purchase... along with headers, guides, sticky no more, dash retrim, new rads, upgraded fuse block.... but they just are beautiful cars to look at and drive!
The Mondial has long been looked at as the next thing to appreciate, mainly because it's one of the most overlooked Ferraris of all time. It'll never have the same appreciation as a V12 or a 2 seater sports V8, but I believe it'll be the next to hit a sharp increase in pricing, namely in the US. Come on, you guys over there get your hands on a Ferrari for less than 20.000 USD!!! A Mondial here costs at least two times that easy, far from concours shape. Kind regards, Nuno.
If 1974 Corvettes can appreciate - anything can. It can't approach a 1996 model on, well, almost anything, but in similar great condition, the 1974 will cost more, lots more. Performance or build quality do not matter, old cars are a totally emotional desire where logic or reason do not apply.
I've looked, maybe somewhat lazily, but the good, later model Mondials are more like $40K. If I could find a nice one for $20K, I'd pick it up in a heartbeat. A manually shifted Ferrari for Corolla money? Heck yeah!
They have been that way for six months over here in Europe. 355s starting to catch up though. Next? Gated 430s? 348s going up too. Mondial t already up over here.
That's what I'm now hearing. Not seeing though. Thanks for the vote of confidence though! Price tag is $20K-ish: 1984 Ferrari Mondial Convertible - but 100,000 miles? Not so $20K-ish: 1989 Ferrari Mondial T 3.4L Cabriolet - and the belt probably needs changing as the last one could've happened 10 years ago.
I think some rise, appropriately, for prime examples, especially for the t (Coupe and Cabs). Otherwise just a very slight increase ("sold for", not "asking prices") for good to excellent cars. The rest will stay flat.
10 months ago I sold my mint 1987 mondial 3.2 which I owned for over 2 years to get my 1993 348ts. Both have gone up in price respectively in that short period of time. Both great cars. I loved the mondial but seriously no comparison to the 348 in my experience. Different cars for different people. I could not afford the 348 now 10 months later, mainly because right hand drive are like gold dust. 308 and 328 are more expensive than the 430 here in the UK now, let alone the 355.
Rob, Great value for money even at double that. The best kept secret in the Ferrari world, hidden in plain sight. Kevin: regarding later, mint Mondials, prices are indeed approaching the mark you refer. However, good early Mondials in the US trade around 20.000 USD, I frequently see them on ebay. The Mondial has a loyal and solid fanbase, and for good reason. My 3.2 cab was my first Ferrari (still own it) and I fell for it instantly. I've had much newer, more powerful cars but the Mondial has that x-factor that makes me want to keep it for life. Kind regards, Nuno.
He also called the Testarossa "a dog". Even the greats have their "FAAAAAAAAAIL" moment. Kind regards, Nuno.
