ZFFXR48A1W0111885 Anybody know this car? Googling the VIN comes up with a sale on CoPart, with damage stated as "normal wear".
Sometimes dealers dump cars/list on copart for additional exposure to other buyers/dealers in the "biz". If they are sold trough an auction like that it's "as is, where is" kind of thing. Insurance auctions have no obligation to supply service docs or history docs etc.
Interesting.. so AutoCheck on the listing says "no accidents".... I wonder what Ebay's policy would be regarding misrepresentation should a buyer want to back out of the deal or want their money back.
My post above had a typo in the VIN. All I can say about Autocheck is it's data needs to be verified with a second source at least. I am sure the EBAY seller was very happy to quote the dopes at Autocheck. that there were no issues with the car. I have written to Autocheck a number of times re missing info and their excuse is always the same: " we report what is reported to us ". I provide the researched info and Autocheck does nothing. They are a cheap service on EBAY and I guess one gets what is paid for; not much. So hopefully we can get out there the fact that this vehicle was declared a total loss. I fully understand the cost of Ferrari parts, and that it does not take much to make an F355 a total loss. Repaired, yes. Flipped by a dealer on Copart, yes. And the dealer on Copart represented the car as having "normal wear"!! LOL. Unfortunately, it is absolutely necessary to believe no one in the car business and to do all the work necessary on your own to verify what one is buying. No affront to the good dealers and sellers out there. Just hard to tell the difference as a casual car buyer. My opinion(s), of course.
autocheck and carfax are Garbage IMHO they are not perfect, don't ever think they are. Plenty of cars have clean, clear titles that should have been salvaged and been parted out long ago.
Carfax uses different rules reporting totals than autocheck. Cars with merely a painted bumper can be deemed a total. Google it...50 million dollar lawsuit filed last year when they changed reporting techniques. Don't believe the hype you read everywhere. drink the juice carefully boys.
Apparently the "high bidder" was a shill. I hate it when that happens. (Marked sold in eBay auction #261825038110 ended April 1, 2015, for $35,005.) Now listed on Craigslist for $36,500. 1998 Ferrari 355 spyder
