Why do the 6MT zealots try to turn every thread into a 6MT vs F1 debate? Are they really so insecure about their choice that they have to harp on the issue in every thread trying to justify why they made a good choice?

I hate to tell them but there are 1000 other things to talk about that are more interesting. It doesn't seam to matter the original subject they find a way to make it a 6MT vs F1 debate. It gets very tedious to hear the same chant and have it constantly distract from the interesting discussions.

OK, rant over but feel free to carry on.

OK, maybe it was trolling a little but the point is still valid. Over the past few weeks the 6MT zealots have turned most every thread into a 6MT vs F1 debate.

I didn't really expect any responses just wanted to make a point without dragging the other threads into the dirt.

    1. The 6MT is the ultimate perfection ever in the history of mankind of anything engineering (with perhaps the exception of the Atlatl).
    2. As long as half awake nitwits can guide their automatic transmission cars down the road while texting and not thinking.. the argument is void and valid. If everyone had to drive a stick, they would be more alert by design.. and thus half a million car accidents would be avoided. Thus, by design it is safer and better. :)
    3. The only way I know how to end a thread about 6MT versus is to post a picture of a scantily clad woman hanging over a car. Which leads to other such pictures...

and then the thread gets moved to the back room section. :)

I don't know.. am I insecure? Wait. I am. I just asked that question!

Oh Curt...your killing me....I love my 6MT...but as the devils advocate I would appreciate the F1 when I am hauling a** through the corner backroad curves....maybe I drive too hard but sometimes it is so intense I don't want to take a hand off the wheel to shift. Horrible problem to have eh? Everyone quit complaining or "worrying" about the cost of ownership and just get out and drive one....

According to many dealers and eBay listings, us F1 owners actually have six speed manuals. A car dealer wouldn't lie, right?

Lifelong manual guy here, but that's my observation, too. But, who cares? I love and enjoy my F1 and that's all that matters.

I hadn't thought of the safety issue, auto, lack of attention etc so valid point.
However I find driving the F1 properly is in a thinking manner similar to driving a manual only someone else is moving the stick quicker and more precisely than you ever could. Thus I'm satisfied with the progress in technology.

Many years ago here in the wetter more miserable part of the UK (beautiful scenery, crap weather) we had a movement called the Luddites who attempted to resist change - and well the rest is history!!

I say each to his own - enjoy, respect and be happy - but you cannot halt progress and after 35 years plus driving manual cars in my opinion F1 and it's peers is here to stay.

Manual just better - fact. The way Enzo envisioned it and the way he made it. THE WAY ITS MEANT TO BE.
Poor Enzo would roll over in his grave if he knew the way Ferrari have gone in recent years.
Paddles good for two things, Playstation and maybe a GTR not a Ferrari - a Ferrari is soul, its harmony with the mechanics of the thing....you cant beat that iconic "click clack".

    "Zealot" out.

Never owned an auto. Love my F1. They were more popular at sale time and still are. Manual shift will be the one to keep though.

... Sorry to disagree but Enzo would have done anything to go faster and really didn't care about the street cars.. Just a means to RACE!!! although as we all know he made some awesome machines

There are great things about manual and f1 cars. I need to own both kinds to feel whole personally.

Many people go on the internet looking for validation of a decision they have already made.

    Have a good one! : )

Totally wrong. Enzo was about one thing and one thing only as it relates to race cars - performance. If they had invented paddle shifters in the 50s, and it had given him an advantage, it would have been in all his race cars.

I suppose front mounted v12s were also the way he intended things? Of course not. As he figured things out, they followed the technology or created new technology to win. The road cars just trickle down from that.

Ferrari is about winning with the best tools in the toolbox.

FYI. Automatics have torque converters. An f1 gearbox is a manually (even if by computer in auto) activated electro hydraulic gearbox. I bet most people do not understand the difference. I never drive my f1 in auto personally, and find that I shift gears exactly as I would in my 6 speed.
