Under carpet and rubber lining it looks like it's plastic. That sound right? Some sort of plastic panel.

Gotcha. I was referring to the small panel where the light relay is mounted behind at an angle to the floor.

The floors in all of the 3*8 GTB's/GTS' are fibreglass from the factory.

In the past (before the days of the 'net and Fchat - remember those days? The information dark ages when Ferrari specialists had you by the balls and could pretty much charge what they liked for even the simplest of repairs!), a lot of owners who had bought an old 308 GTB/GTS thought that the floors had rusted away and had been replaced with a cheap fibreglass repair section, not realising that that was how they came from the factory!

    I can believe that!

In fact it is not immediately clear what the construction is. It took me a while to work it out when I first looked at these cars. As we now know, the chassis is a spaceframe made with welded tubes, and there is a large molded fibreglass floortray which sits on top of it. Just to catch everyone out, they riveted a non-structural closing panel to the underneath of the chassis so you cant see the floortray from below.
