Trust me I am real. And serious about this. I am sick and haven't even called the garage back. I do feel as though he thinks I am weak and will just pay anything. Bought car with 38k miles on it. Belt history unknown. Blew at 41k same dealer looked it over then. Said 25k to fix most likely and 20k to replace with used. Then I took car back to find the actual problem and I got lucky. The block was barely hurt and piston didn't even look that bad let alone to say it was pinched but regardless it ws still one piston. A set of rings. Oil pump chain. I had bought new tensioners. Belts. Brought him 7k in parts and that's not retail. Shop hooked me up. Felt bad. 3k clutch for 1200. Belt kit cheap. All Ferrari original. Now I feel I am being taken advantage of. Only call I got was about replacing piston and it would only be a couple thousand in parts. A couple!

Maybe he forgot who supplied the parts?
Hope you are feeling better, you will need to have a sit down face to face with the guy for sure.
I might start by saying, "I am not happy with this bill so I want to break it down and go over it with you."

Oooppss - my irony detector failed to pick that up ! for a moment I thought that it was a part of the better treatment that you guys across the pond get from most car manufacturers.

Mechanic called me in today. Cleared up all my confusion and I feel very happy that I was just being a nervous Nellie. We cleared the air and broke everything down. I really am glad that I chose this garage. Made me feel like family by calling me in to justify everything. All in all feel much better. Still won't say who just because the confusion. They really did an amazing job. Saw the car today.

Thanks everyone for the support. And to whoever jumped to the lawyer suggestion. Talking it out is always better. Handled perfectly professional.

For anyone else needing a engine rebuilt...
Try Exotic in Reno, these guys do Ferrari engines along with
    nascar, boat, truck racers, etc.

I talked to the head rebuilder at length a few years back, Singleton IIRC,
And they are actually very reasonable.
Shipping the motor there and back is less than you might think,
and these guys are the gold standard in rebuilding.

Come on man! What was the outcome? I suspect the answer is the estimate was off and they forgot the parts he brought. First mistake was running a car with unknown belts at 38K.

Even some Ferrari dealers recommend 4 years instead of 3, personally I think 5 years is still a good interval, and checking the belt every annual service.

I think your point tells most of the story. Who knows how it cost that but he sold the car and went to a different marque (my unsupported speculation).

Aha, good call. I think he probably cut his losses and sold it.
