Ferrari main competitor

Lamborghini historically.

Now a days there is so much wealth in the world that none of those are really a competitor anymore.

In GT racing, most series have the cars so equal due to rules and regulations it's pretty much neck and neck. I suppose Corvette would be the strongest competition.

 

Corvette wins more in GT but that is due to much more invested, so a bit unfair.

As for for competitor: Merge Lamborghini's Exotic Flair with Porsche's Racing and you have your competition.

If that's not enough evidence for you, take a look at the current hypercar crop and see who actually deals the most damage 😉

 

Right now I'd say Lamborghini and McLaren are competitors with Porsche preparing a mid-engine car to compete with Ferrari.

Historically, I'd say maybe Lotus.

I know the one Ferrari hates the most is Porsche.


Best not to say the word in a Ferrari building. Mention Lamborghini and they just laugh but Porsche is a very bad word.


One of the guys I knew at Ferrari and was an all around car guy bought a 356. He got so much crap from the company he sold it.



Take it or leave it but that's their perspective.

 

Porsche is the clearest direct competitor. It is the Germanic equivalent of Ferrari. You trade a bit of the sizzle and sass for reliability and practicality. You don't trade off on the driving characteristics at all, however.

The cars have balance, road feel, performance. The performance range matches Ferraris up and down, but they have gone much more mass market in the Boxster, Cayman, Cayenne, Panamera categories. Both Ferrari and Porsche have gone more "GT" and are pandering a bit more to the wealthy non-enthusiasts (biggest seller for Ferrari is the California, and Porsche makes all its money off the Cayenne/Panamera).

Lamborghini is not the main competition. Up until very, very recently (last 15 years) they weren't considered drivers cars.

McLaren is the other competitor but has far less resources and is a bit more niche than even Ferrari. Same goes for Pagani and Koenigsegg etc.

When I was looking at cars it was primarily Porsche, Ferrari and Audi (R8). I think that is a very common cross-shopping grouping at the used car level $100-$200k range, and new car range $150-$350k range. McLaren too, of course.

 

Porsche has a higher win rate in racing and have much better engineering. Not surprising really.

A Porsche guy used to say their competition was a boat, a plane, or a second home, etc.....I think that applies to Ferrari as well

 

from street car view I will say porsche. A lot of guys here drive porsche. Im sure there are plenty people that decided for a gt3 or 911 turbo for a ton less $ over a 458.

And yet despite that, Ferrari is the bigger legend in motor racing!

Ferrari is the one that generates the most passion!

Ferrari is the one that everyone else goes racing to beat!

 

I am not so sure it is a total coincidence that they tend to stay out of each others sand box.
