I get the fact that it is designed to be quiet at low RPM then loud at WOT. But, I don't like this... the car idles far too quiet for my liking. I like my V8s to splutter away while sitting at the lights. I often catch myself driving in a lower gear @ 3500 rpm just to get the sound as I go through town.

I know in race mode it appears to open a valve or something to give it the bassy 'second breath' at c. 3500 rpm - is there a way to get this sound at lower RPM too?

I really didn't want to mod the 458 at all but would an aftermarket exhaust achieve what I want? Or is this just the way it is?

Forza Componenti "B1" exhaust bypass controller. He's a vendor on Fchat too... great product at a great price.

    Forza Componenti - Home

Far cheaper than a full aftermarket exhaust and achieves exactly what you're looking for.

    Wow, that looks ideal...

It doesn't invalidate the warranty right? Should I take it out before I take it to the dealer for service?

Anyone know of a reseller in UK or should I buy direct?

    Thanks

I just bought one from them, haven't fitted it yet as the car hasn't arrived, really nice company to deal with though I can recommend, delivery was quick considering I'm UK based too.Part looks decent quality.

Leaving it in for servicing should be fine, if you're making a warranty claim on anything powertrain it might be worthwhile to remove it before taking it in. Of course it's all dependent on how mod-friendly your dealership is.
I haven't heard of anybody having issues directly stemming from the valve controller however.

Just buy it direct, I don't think he has any resellers at the moment. Capristo does offer a similar product, albeit at a much higher price point- that would likely be available through a UK reseller.

Maybe I'm being thick, but I've read all the notes but can't figure out where it goes. Presumably you plug it in at the engine bay, but where does the controller go?

Is it as simple to install as they claim?

My car has the valves open , it took 15 minutes at the Ferrari dealer and sounds much better.

20 minutes In the garage dropping the diffusor will be enough to take the lines off the exhaust valves and it sounds much better. No more on and off of the valves.

I was just about to buy it. So are you guys saying you can open the valves without buying this kit?

    I would never close them.

I asked my dealer and they declined and said they don't deal in aftermarket parts...

Yes. You can remove and plug the vacuum lines if you want the valves open constantly. With the kit, you can have the car act as stock also.

Ok thanks - so it's just a matter of finding a specialist who will do this? Or any other mechanic? Or is it easy enough to do myself... don't suppose there is a guide?

    Thanks again to all

Doesn't require any parts. Just pull the diffuser and pull the vacuum lines so that the exhaust valves are open 24/7. I did this on my California and it was night and day. My Spider is so loud already that I've had 2nd thoughts about pulling the lines. Honestly, with a heavy right foot in Race Mode the majority of time and the top or rear window down, I can barely hear myself think.

While listening to CME lectures on my daily commute, I sometimes drive in Sports Mode with all the windows closed so I can decipher the medical jargon:(

My Ferrari master technician pulled the vacuum lines and left no paper trail to keep it on the DL from FNA. Free of charge. Surprising considering my dealership is mod-unfriendly. For example, they discourage aftermarket rims while OEM warranty is in effect.

Ferrari of Palm Beach did mine while I was purchasing the car last week. It's a 15 minute operation and sounds 100 pct better.

I asked my dealer to do this and they you lose low end torque and can cause intermittent stalling.

The low end torque loss I understand and it is quite negligible but I was surprised with the statement about intermittent stalling.

No noticeable loss of torque or a single stall with Cali over 2 years of driving with pulled vacuum liines.

The car will not stall w the lines pulled. As long as they're plugged. That's a joke.

I've read a lot about people saying there is "torque loss" with the valves open. What's funny is that the valves open at 2500rpm anyhow. Who measures torque or need torque from 0-2500???

The way the car is from the factory you drive along sounding like s complete goofball in town with the valves opening and closing.

Yup, that's exactly what I don't want. And, when going over bumps trying to hold foot still the valves open and close making it sound like a broken harley. Shift up a gear and it sounds like a Toyota cruiser.

I'm going to find the best guy I know to attempt to "Just pull the diffuser and pull the vacuum lines"

If anyone had any images or more info it would be appreciated.

Indeed, and even a monkey can do it :). Easiest way is with a pair of $0.10 golf tees ziptied away from the exhaust. Fully reversible in a minute. I MUCH rather do it this way than modifying the car with any aftermarket product, but to each his own. Good luck.

I had removed the plugs on my 360 Spyder. Someone had posted a very detailed step by step. The sound was a bit annoying though. The droning sound didn't sound "nice" I was loud but not good. I reconnected the hoses and bought a tubi. That was music. Does anyone have some detail on how to disconnect from a 458? I'd like to try it. I'm not very mechanical without pics. Thanks.

just remove rear diffuser, think it is 14 screws, will see vacume line at the back of frame going into a line that splits, and goes into the two valves, disconnect at that point, plug the two ends, and put diffuser back on. Makes so much different in sound and takes about half hour.
