I was wondering if anyone has been able to come across reliable production numbers on the 458. I did some guestimating using VINs for US spec cars and came up with roughly 32,000. The lowest 2010 VIN (last 6 digits) I could find was 173,733 and the highest was a 2015 with last-6 of 205,431. My sense is that there are probably higher and lower numbered cars out there. It's also not clear (at least to me) if the VINs from US cars are inclusive or exclusive of ROW cars.

The Ferrari market seems to be very opaque when it comes to productions numbers, at least that's kinda/sorta been my experience with the 458. I've asked dealers and they have provided wishy-washy answers, but one would think they would have to know more. If anyone has any solid info they can share that would be appreciated.

There won't be numbers for many years - and even then certainly not reliable ones - your methodology is faulty in that all those VINs cover all the Ferraris built - most will be Californias then some will be V12 - I guess you're looking at about 10000 x 458

They definitely made more than 10K 458's. It's more around the area of 20K. I could be wrong though.

It's been my understanding, at least in dealing with vintage Ferrari over the years, is that street cars get odd vin numbers and racing cars get even vins, so you can probably cut your total production numbers in half. That could have changed, maybe even a very long time ago. If anyone knows the current truth about that I'd love to know.

Not in recent times. I've had 2 Challenge cars in past few years, while the VINs are dummy numbers (they are not street legal or title-able), one chassis number has been odd, one even.

Simple estimate - since 2010, let's say 7,000 cars shipped/year, so 35,000 total cars. 5% are Challenge cars (GT cars via Michelotto don't count), so subtract 175. Subtract the 599 GTO's (yes, I know some were 2009). so of the 34,000 cars in balance, 75% V8, 25% V12? toss in a few SP's and LaF's, let's say 25,000 V8's. IIRC there were more Cali's built than 458's? (Cali was their highest volume selling car)....which would mean 10-12K 458's?

My math is subject to correction...

An old thread but ironically one of our members in the FCA LI chapter happened to bring his 458 to an event yesterday and is was vin 173733! And it was plaqued as the first 458 delivered to the US.

That is pretty cool too see. Anyone have any solid data on 458 production including coupe/spider ratios?

I think it is fair to estimate 4,000 458s were produced a year for about 5 years. What is that? 20,000 cars.

Someone on this forum posted this a while back so I can’t take credit for finding the info.
This came from the NHTSA, production numbers for USA 458s both coupe and spyder combined:
    2010– 474, 2011– 662, 2012–685, 2013–1239, 2014–1150. total 4210. IIRC the US gets about 25% of total production
No 2015 numbers at that time.

So, the above equals only 4,210 458’s in the USA not counting 2015. We can assume 2015 numbers aren’t more than 2014. So aprox only 5,000 458’s in the USA not counting all the ones that have been damaged and totaled. I think these cars may be rather than we think in the scheme of things.

the current brake is for just shy of 10,000 458 and 488 between 2010 and 2019 delivered to US
10 years, 1,000 cars per year?
    5000 458?

If only 5000 458s in US then jeez there must be only a small fraction of Speciales.

I figure about 800 Speciales originally made for USA...about 26% of total estimated production (on the high end of estimated 3000 total...worldwide)

Mine is 174099 and has "VIP" code on build sheet, apparently indicative of early build slot for priority buyer (Bruce McCaw).

Actual manufacturing of the 488 did not start before July 2015, and the 458 Spider and Speciale production was continued up to early 2016 - the Italia production could have been complete by October or November 2015 but these are only approximate guesses.
